5.0 out of 5 stars Much More Than a Novelty Item
This CD would be worth it for the transcendent Banks of the River, if nothing else; but everything is top drawer here. This is certainly one of the most soulful jazz CD's ever recorded. The rhythm section, anchored by the incomparable Sly Dunbar, cooks with a slooow burn that mesmerizes. Fraser, mostly on tenor but sometimes doubling on alto, plays his heart out...

1.0 out of 5 stars No longer available Items advertised on Amazon
What a pity after bothering to advertise this album on amazon.com and going through the ordering proceedure that this item is again 'not available' from new, and the only second hand used copy offered on Amazon will not be shipped internationally.

So much for 'internet shopping'.

The rhythm section, anchored by the incomparable Sly Dunbar, cooks with a slooow burn that mesmerizes. Fraser, mostly on tenor but sometimes doubling on alto, plays his heart out. Consummate professionalism, great sound, marvelous ensemble playing, tasty solos--what more could you want from a jazz CD? This one seldom leaves my most-listened-to pile.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great entertainer, February 4, 2005
This review is from: Big Up (Audio CD)
This is one of my favourite albums. Everyone who I play it for, is blown away.

The first track, "Dick Tracy", hooks with it's pumping ska and the rest of the album is smooth, laid back, pure gold.

Great music for when one has freinds over.

What a real shame Dean Fraser isn't better known to mainstream music listeners.

Grreeat music for home, boat or car, work or party. An all time favorite. Sly's on it too! When I take a trip this disk is always in the pile.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jamaican Jazz Saxophone played by one of its best., May 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Big Up (Audio CD)
A track from this album featured on Rebirth of Cool 7 (African Elation) lead me into buying this very good album from one of Jamaica's foremost sax players. The guest musicians are excellent and the selection includes Fraser's own compositions and compositions from other Jamaican legends. The sound flows naturally as if all musicians knew each other for a long time. Recommended.
