The Bigfoot Mystery - An Excellent Adventure!,
By Kathy Moskowitz (Sonora, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bigfoot Mystery: The Adventure begins (Paperback)
For those of you who would like to know more about Bigfoot, in a fun, interesting setting, this book is for you! Most Bigfoot books are pretty dry and hard to keep your attention. Robert Leiterman does an excellent job of weaving lore, history, and scientific methods into a wonderful story of two young boys who have a sighting and seek to learn more about what they saw. Before you know it, you will have learned more about the creature and the methods that modern day researchers use than you ever thought possible! I highly recommend this book to anyone!

The title says it all. The author does an excellent job of weaving his tale through the eyes of two young brothers who stumble upon an unusual site while hiking in the redwoods. After their encounter they go searching for answers with their family and find more questions at times than answers. The author keeps the story interesting with a mix of science, natural history, and good characters based in a family atmosphere. Great for young and older readers. Can't wait to explore "Yeti or Not"

This review is from: The Bigfoot Mystery: The Adventure begins (Paperback)
This first book in a series of Bigfoot mystery novels for young readers is an excellent book. It's a nice introduction to the world of cryptozoology and a good informational source of natural resources. Writers get better with each practice and the sequel to this book is "Yeti or Not, Here we come!" is even better! If Yeti's aren't your thing, buy this book for its insight into natural resources and I also strongly recommend his natural resource book, "Great Valley Grassland Adventure."

My three children, Elizabeth 10, Jacob 9, and Spencer 7, just finished this book. They read it out loud taking turns for two days. I couldn't get them to put it down. I liked the way that Robert Leiterman used the family as his adventurers, as we also look for Bigfoot whenever we can. Robert kept their attention and the book was very exciting for them to read. Thank You Robert, we're looking forward to reading the other books too. Sharon Cline and Family, Reno, Nv Bigfoot Believers

"The Bigfoot Mystery" is a fun and fictional account of a bigfoot sighting. If you enjoy the outdoors and all it has to offer, then read this book. It is a good young adult mystery.

An Interesting Mysterious Adventure full of interest, mystery, and adventure.,

This review is from: The Bigfoot Mystery: The Adventure begins (Paperback)
Yes, read the review title, that happens continuously in this book. Everything was "mysterious" or "an adventure" and a little "interesting". These words are used far, far too much in this book. Sorry had to get that out of the way. Otherwise, what Lieterman does here is take your standard 'every book' anecdotes from bigfoot books and weaves them into a fictional story involving some kids and a disbelieving father. These would include Alberts Ostman, Roosevelt's Baumann story, Patterson-Gimlin film, Jerry Crews, and standard eye-witness sumation statements. Even the events involving the kids are stereotypical "sightings" with real witnesses. He also gives some scenes in which the POV is from the bigfoots. The 'bigfoot expert' characters are modelled largely after real researchers. The kids are believable and predictably the father becomes a believer.
This book is targetted towards a younger audience, say 10 to 15 years old. It's readable as an adult but you will not enjoy it as much because it is written for younger people. On the positive side, this is a great series for younger people to become interested in the bigfoot phenomenon or even to read as a story about strange creatures in the woods. For the armchair bigfoot enthusiasts, some will gush over what a great story he wrote; for me it was just 'all-right' and a nice way to incorporate the common stories into a way to inspire kids. Unfortunately, there are a plethora of editting and mis-spelling errors throughout the book (why is the author using bigfoot as a proper noun?). We'll see what the other two books have to offer. This would probably be great to read with your kids while camping.
