3.0 out of 5 stars So many words on so little evidence
Krantz really knows how to make the proverbial mountain out of a molehill. The fact is, this book does a wonderful job of spending a lot of time talking about a very little evidnece, and then using that evidence to hypothisize at length about a creature that may not even exist. Still, Krantz brings a lot more knowledge and respectability to the subject than any other...

5.0 out of 5 stars Scientist examines evidence for Sasquatch existence, April 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bigfoot Sasquatch: Evidence (Paperback)
Dr Grover Krantz, a Physical Anthropologist examines the objective evidence for the existence of the Sasquatch. This book was previously published in the early 1990's as "Big Foot Prints". This new edition is updated with the latest developments in this field. Among the evidence examined is the 1967 Roger Patterson film, the 1970 Bossburg cripple prints, the dermal ridge prints found by a U.S. Forestry worker in the 1980's. Dr. Krantz analyzes the objective physical evidence and also compares the physical description of the Sasquatch with Hominds known from the fossil record. Dr Kranz presents a strong case for G. Blacki as being the mostly likely match for the present day Sasquatch. There have been many books on this subject from lay persons, however this book is written by a leading Scientist and deals with facts and presents a levelheaded view of this subject. There is a fair amount of technical information however it is presented in a fashion that a lay person can easily understand. Several of Dr Krantz's published papers are in the appendix, these were originally published in academic anthropology publications. Dr Krantz has been studying this subject since the 1960's, when it was academic and scientific suicide to publicly express serious interest in this subject. He has pioneered the way for the later Scientists to investigate this subject without the censure he was subjected to in the 1970's and 1980's. Today it is considered acceptable to study cryptozoologic animals, however this has not always been the case. Dr. Krantz states that he believes the only way to settle this subject is for a physical specimen (a type speciment-that can be studied by Scientists). It is likely when this happens that the Sasquatch will then be declared an endangered species. Based on the known information, the Sasquatch is extremely shy, nocturnal, and is usually in densely forested areas. This may be one reason why there has not been a specimen taken to date. It is likely as more Scientists are involved in this investigation and lay persons that the proof of existence will be forthcoming. The reports have been occuring for hundreds of years and the physical descriptions are all remarkably similar. This animal has been sighted by police officers, clergy, military personnel, hunters and other credible witnesses. It is hard to read this volume and not be convinced that there is a strong case for the existence of this animal.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Book on one of the Greatest Mysteries, April 4, 2000
This review is from: Bigfoot Sasquatch: Evidence (Paperback)
"Big Footprints," written by physical anthropologist Dr. Grover Krantz, is the only book on the subject of the Sasquatch that explores the enduring mystery from a scientist's point of view. In a lucid, highly readable style, Dr. Krantz separates the solid evidence from the dubious, corrects many famous misconceptions, and, in the end, really takes the skeptics to task. Perhaps the most commendable aspect of this work is the professional and level-headed treatment Krantz gives his topic - a topic that courts the lunatic fringe. The detailed study of the famous "Patterson/Gimlin" film of bigfoot, along with thorough investigation into the veracity of the dermal ridges found in some footprint casts, show this book to be the work of a serious scientist. Personally, I've loaned this book to skeptics who've come away scratching their heads, wondering if we humans might actually share the planet with large, bipedal primates. "Big Footprints" is beyond doubt the finest book ever written on the Sasquatch enigma.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have book, March 14, 2005

This review is from: Bigfoot Sasquatch: Evidence (Paperback)
Whether you're new to the Bigfoot mystery or an old hand, this book explains everything you need to know about the best evidence for Bigfoot's existence, the footprints these creatures leave behind. Krantz covers every angle on footprints, from dermal ridges to deformities and depth of impression. His section on the Patterson film presents solid, scientific evidence that the creature filmed is real. While quite technical, this book provides an excellent overview of the topic. If this book can't convince you of Bigfoot's existence, nothing will!

Grover Krantz deserves a place in history for courageouslywriting a clear and scientifically sound description of proof that alarge biped ape-like animal does hide in the forests. Any non-biasedreader who actually examines the overwhelming evidence will be amazed..... Grover details impressive footprint evidence (and some hoaxes)and also how the proportions of the famous 1967 film of a femaleBigfoot could not be a human in a fur suit. He is right. I'm aHollywood animation artist and so I deal in human proportion andmovement. There is simply no way that this film could possibly be ahoax. Even the muscles move under the fur. This is a great book foradults, and also for your favorite young adults. The subject willkeep them interested, and the scientific lucidness will be a goodinfluence on them.

This book goes into great detail on many bigfoot topics from the Patterson film to the study of tracks. It's so in depth that it actually got slightly boring at times, however the information is top-notch. If you really want to understand the evidence out there, read this book.

The book is full of information and knowledge, but I must warn you that it is not exciting, it is great for facts, and scientific evidence, it should be in every bigfoot readers library. By Eric J Mazzi emtazmazz@aol.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Did luvthearts read this, or just watch Fox?, May 31, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bigfoot Sasquatch: Evidence (Paperback)
This is a forum for reviewing books, not arguing with people, so I'll start with my review. This is the lucid, thoughtful, specific book on Sasquatch I think a lot of people always wanted to see, and I thoroughly enjoyed it on my first and many subsequent readings. If you're a BF enthusiast who's gotten numb reading other books' sensationalism or lazy compilations of old anecdotes, you'll enjoy it too. I applaud Krantz not only for his professional courage, but for his level head.

Now to luvthearts and the Patterson film. Krantz goes on at length about how no human being could occupy a costume of that size and shape without adding a new joint in the middle of his forearm. About how prints, at the film site and elsewhere, show features that defy hoaxing. Etc. Etc. I'd get more specific, but Krantz already did, and luvthearts didn't seem to be paying attention then. People can imitate the gait of the Patterson subject? No kidding. I can recite the Gettysburg Address, but that doesn't make me Abe Lincoln. The pursuit of the truth in this matter has been, and will be, hampered by people who feel it's more important to have an opinion than to put any effort into forming one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, August 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bigfoot Sasquatch: Evidence (Paperback)
Grover Krantz is one of very few anthropologists to seriously tackle the Bigfoot subject from the side of open-mindedness. Most scientists are far too afraid to admit any interest in the subject. His examinations of the evidence: footprints, Patterson Film, etc., are level-headed and thoroughly fair. His exaustive examination of the Patterson Film should be the last word: it is NOT a hoax, as anyone who actually STUDIES the film will realize. The few poor reviews below were obviously written by people who didn't actually read the book. Had they actually read Dr. Krantz's findings and understood what they were reading, they would not have given it such a bad rating. Read this book with an open mind and decide for yourself!

Excellent. Read the original edition, "BigFootprints", and enjoyed it. Mostly covers the mysterious creatures of western N America, but also discusses similar creatures reported elsewhere in the world. Discusses various "classic" bigfoot material, including the Patterson film, plaster casts, hoaxes, disinformation, the need for a type specimen, etc. Very interesting, well worth your while.
