Book Description

August 4, 2009
This book is an exciting opportunity for exercising individual thought based upon humanity's search for a significant role in the ongoing drama of a much better world. It is a challenge to all of humanity of every race and culture, every religious faith, and to those who possess an avid religion of no religion, the pure atheist. Throughout the book, the author proclaims the dignity of the human creature as he seeks his destiny. It reflects a destiny that exists beyond all human comprehension, and is not to be restricted by any religion, especially Christianity. The author suggests that the most tragic happening for the Christian faith is that it has been categorized as "just another religion".The central theme of the book is that there is an awesomely bigger picture for the success of human life, and we are a precise part of its unfolding as humans, with the gifts of a reasoning mind, and a delicate inner spirit, searching for meaning and destiny. The book suggests that the ultimate destiny and goal is the ultimate perfection of human nature; his character and his behavior. This lies at the heart of all searching minds, and spirits, as they are driven to a discovery or destiny. Contained in Paul's letter to the Corinthians in the first century is his observation that "the human eye has never seen, or the ear heard; nor has there entered into the mind of any man, what it is that God has prepared for those who love Him."This book affirms that God is, and that God possesses the true blueprint for the perfection of human nature. Our human destiny is dependent upon our relationship to the Master Creator and our cooperation with Him. This is a crucial ingredient of all religions, and for all human beings who can recognize that God has created the human creature in His own image of a mind and spirit capable of communication with Him. This book does not attempt to identify the realistic facts of what the "bigger picture"

About the Author

Dr. Lyman served as a pastor for 40 years. He has always been an advocate of the incredible significance of human life in a turbulent world. For twelve years, at the height of his career he served as Senior Pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Lansing, Michigan. His sermons reflected the intellectual acumen of a widely varied congregation. The Church, located next to the State Capitol in downtown Lansing, became a forum for the best minds of Michigan State University, the Legislators of the State, and the Automotive Industrial complex of the city. Dr. Lyman experienced a panoramic view of the habits of the human presence on planet Earth. It was a time of much unrest that continues to plague the world. Dr. Lyman has had many of his insightful sermons published in the Michigan Christian Advocate. He views the presence of the human race from a Christian perspective, and has recently come to the conclusion that humanity is involved in an incredible, and unrecognized movement of life that far exceeds any human capacity to comprehend. Dr. Lyman has been an active participant in the affairs of Christianity; the World Methodist Conference; the General Conference; a District Superintendent. His mind seeks to discover the real purpose of human existence, and in his book, The Bigger Picture, he outlines the authentic meaning of the human being, declaring that it is bigger than the human mind is capable of conceiving, but vital to the ultimate destiny of humans on planet Earth. Dr. Lyman now lives quietly in Marshall, Michigan, but his mind remains active, and his spirit remains penetrating as he faces retirement from retirement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and wise, August 7, 2009
This review is from: The Bigger Picture (Paperback)
Don't miss the fruits of eight decades of Christian practice, preaching, and reflection! The author puts together lively sermons with current reflections on the limits of human knowledge and the breadth of God. In an age of religious argument and narrowness this is a book of opening minds and hearts to rethink familiar teachings.
