The 1st Roy Orbison song I ever really got into was Crying. I just loved that song so much. His voice on that song is wonderful. So I was in the music store one day when I found this CD on the shelf. It had all of my favorites on there, and some songs I hadn't ever heard. So I thought "what the heck, I got the money." And that purchase led me into one of the best albums that I own. Each and every song on here is wonderful and the sound quality is superior. I listen to it every day. It is one of those albums that can be enjoyed my people of all ages. Take it from me. I'm only 13 and I love this album. Take it from me and get this album. You won't be disappointed.

TIMELESS MUSIC,

Roy Orbison was before my time, although I vaguely remember him on the radio as a small child. But listen to "Crying," "It's Over," "Only the Lonely," "Running Scared," and "Pretty Woman," and tell me this guy had ANY equal as a singer!! Maybe Ray Charles, Brian Wilson, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra come close, but his voice is UNBELIEVABLE!! And the songs are beautiful and timeless. If you've never heard of him somehow, BUY THIS C.D. and enjoy!!

This set includes 16 of Roy Orbison's biggest hits on Monument Records, which he recorded between 1960 to 1964. I have about 25 Roy Orbison cds and this disc by far has the best sound, just crank up the volume on the ending of "Running Scared" or "The Crowd" and you will know what I mean. All songs are the orginal recordings, the best cd for the price.

An absolutely amazing voice,

This is a great album with beautiful music. How could it not be? The man himself, Roy Orbison, sends shivers down your spine with his soaring, piercing tenor voice. Roy is still curiously underrarted and under-appreciated. I was ecstatic when he went through a revival in the late 80's, but it was tragically cut short when Roy died, then his reputation again fell by the wayside. His voice remains the purest instrument in popular music in the last fifty years. Listening to these remastered recordings is an absolute joy because I'm accustomed to listening to these treasures on vinyl, with the typical pops, buzzes and surface scratches. All of that has been eliminated on this disc. The sound quality is exceptional throughout.Included are all of Orbison's signature hits, from the classic "Pretty Woman" to the haunting "Crying" with the poignant tenor cry at the conclusion. My personal favorite Orbison song has always been "Running Scared," a sort of mini-opera, replete with the soaring, rather syrupy arrangements his songs are noted for. I admit many of these arrangements sound dated, but the voice is the primary instrument anyway, and the only one you'll care about. If Elvis was blessed with a gorgeous set of pipes, Roy was in another league entirely and his gift never diminished. If you are an old Orbison die-hard fan, or a newbie to this incredible man, this collection will do you nicely. ---

This CD contains the very best work of one of rock's finest voices. All of his best known hits are here, and they sound great. If you can only buy one Orbison CD this should be your choice. But beware...once you've heard these songs, you won't be able stop with just this compilation. Roy Orbison is an artist you can listen to over and over again and never get tired of hearing. Don't miss this one!

I'd heard of Roy Orbison through The Beatles, they used to tour together. Then, one day, I happened to be looking at a music store at the cassettes that were on sale. In that bin, I found a $... cassette of Roy Orbison 16 Greatest Hits. I was blown away. Roy Orbison has a fantastic voice that even Elvis can't match. I play this cassette a lot because it is great. Roy Orbison 16 Greatest Hits is one of my most played cassettes. It makes great dinner music, too.

Roy Orbison is a LEGEND. One of the Best along With Johnny Cash, His Music is sometimes Sad, Melodic. Yet Inspiring,His life story is full of sadness but he pushed ahead nonetheless. My Favorites on this CD Included Running Scared, Blue Bayou. All of them Are good Songs though.

Roy Orbison possessed the fantastic ability to take a song and turn it into a magnificent tour de force; his voice was great and he never missed a beat. This CD is not the most complete retrospective of his hits; but it's good for people on a budget and you do get quite a bit for your money. The track set begins with "Only The Lonely." "Only The Lonely" mixes a country flavor with rock to create an excellent tune. Roy's voice, clear and rich, never sounded better; and the backup chorus harmonizes to perfection. "Only The Lonely" lets Roy sing of how lonely he is now that his woman has left him for another man. "Running Scared" has a great guitar arrangement to go along with Roy's excellent delivery of this ballad. "Running Scared" has extra guitars to bolster the melody; and Roy sings "Running Scared" with a superfluous note. "Crying," a classic Roy Orbison ballad, features Roy at the top of his game. The country/rock melody goes perfectly with his passionate vocals on "Crying." Roy explores the upper area of his vocal range on "Crying" as well. Moreover, "Candy Man" begins with some great harmonica that continues through the song; Roy sings of how he wants romantic time with his woman. Love that backup chorus, too! "Falling" is a passionate ballad that gets the fully royal treatment from Roy; he delivers "Falling" with great sensitivity. The backup chorus and the light Latin beat enhance "Falling" greatly. "It's Over" lets Roy sings of a love gone awry; and the guitars work wonders for "It's Over." Last but not least, the track set ends with Roy's classic rendition of "Oh, Pretty Woman." The upbeat, catchy melody stuns me with its beauty; and Roy sings with all his heart about a woman he wants to make his girlfriend. "Oh, Pretty Woman" gives us a strong ending for this album. The liner note artwork is good; and we get the song credits, too. There is no essay but this is a minor disappointment. Overall, this fine CD is a great budget priced item for people who want an introduction to Roy's artistry; and people who want an inexpensive retrospective of his work will find this enjoyable as well. Heck, ANYONE interested in good, creative music will appreciate this CD. Thank you, Roy! We miss you! |
