ISBN 0307020010 - My Christmas book collection couldn't possibly be complete without Amye Rosenberg's The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree. This edition, in paperback, isn't my favorite, only because the book gets a lot of reading and wear; I prefer the hardcover.

In the trunk of a large fir tree in the forest, there are three cozy homes. Mr. and Mrs. Fieldmouse live on the first floor and Old Gray Acorn, a squirrel, lives on the top floor. In the middle, there are the Chipmunks, a family of four, including Little Nina and Nutley. Each Christmas, the children prepare for Santa's visit - and each year, he doesn't come. This year, Mom and Dad throw a party to cheer them up. Aunt Mim, their favorite aunt, comes and, when the kids tell her why they're sad, she has a great idea. She thinks Santa doesn't come because their house just looks like any other tree, so they will decorate their tree to be sure Santa can't possibly miss it. Everyone pitches in and they all agree - it's the biggest, most beautiful Christmas tree in the world. When Santa finally does find them, a tradition is born.

As a kid, I found the book made me very sad, to think Santa could miss anyone! Even the happy resolution didn't make me feel better about it. Rosenberg is both author and illustrator and she's done a superb job. The illustrations, which take up all or almost all of every page, are engaging, fun and vivid. The details are nice, the colors are bright and they contribute so much to the story. The text is fairly simple and the story, like all good Christmas tales, does have the required happy ending, confirming that Santa doesn't overlook any child intentionally.

This was one of my top five all time favorite stories of all time when I was a kid. I used to read it year round, not just at Christmas. I remember I was so excited when I could finally read the whole thing by myself without needing to run and ask my parents to help me sound out a word. I also remember just sitting and looking at the illustrations for ages.

The story is about a small community of forest animals that live in one big fir tree. Every year they celebrate Christmas but they never get a visit from Santa, because Santa doesn't know that they live in the fir tree. They decide to decorate the tree, all working together, to make it a beautiful Christmas tree so Santa will know to come visit. After decorating they admire the tree and go to sleep. I loved the illustrations of all the animals sleeping, they are so cute. The next morning they all wake up to find that Santa did visit and everyone is happy.

A very simple but very sweet story about working together to accomplish a goal. No one argues or fights and it sets a great example. During the holidays families can be torn apart by fighting and stress, and this reminds both adults and children to work together to make the holidays enjoyable!

I ordered this for my daughter because my own childhood copy got lost years ago. I am so glad and thankful for Amazon. I am so happy that I can share this story with my daughter.

This is one of the best Christmas books. For some reason, Santa Claus never comes to the tree that the Chipmunk family lives in. They celebrate as well as they can, but the Chipmunk children, Nina and Nutley, always hope that Santa Claus will come. One Christmas, Aunt Mim comes to visit, and decides that Santa never comes because he can't tell their tree apart from all the other trees in the forest, and so the Chipmunks decorate their tree. The illustrations are beautiful, and very festive, and overall, this is a wonderful holiday story.

I love this book! I bought it for my nephew. My brother and I read it when we were little, my son had a copy I ordered him when he was born, and now my nephew has a copy. It's a traditional Christmas book we read in our family! I was kind of disappointed because there was a price sticker stuck to the front of the book which wasn't mentioned in the description. When I pulled it off it took some of the cover with it. Otherwise it was in fair shape. Thank you! :-)

This was a book I had when I was a child. It was awesome then and it's just as good now. I will be happy to have this to read to my children.
