Iranian female 1970s making traditional music popular, April 9, 2007

Mahasty has a powerful innate voice. This is a collection of her 1970s material. The sound quality is great and seams to have been made from the masters. This is unlike other iranian CD releases that have poor quality. In this collection Mahasti bridges the gap between traditional classical vocal music of Iran and pop music. These arrangements and compositions make this sort of music accessible to those whose ear is only accostumed to pop music. The use of the traditional iranian percussion zarb and the iranian instrument santur are very interesting.
