When I was given THE BIGS as a gift, I thought "Oh no, not for me." I am somewhat of a "serious" baseball fan, who looks for deep statistics, simulation modes, and franchise modes in baseball video games. Yet despite the focus on somewhat repetitive arcade action, I find myself immersed in this game. Graphics are stellar, animations superb, and the "pick up and play" nature of the controls yeilds heaps of fun right off the bat.

Nicely done video game. From the menu screens to the min-games, it all feels really polished. About 25 hours of gameplay so far, and not even half done. It is fun to create your own player and build their stats. Step up to the plate with THE BIGS. You won't be disappointed.

I have not had this much fun playing video game baseball ever! The Bigs is simple enough to jump right into but complex enough to make you want to keep playing. It is the perfect balance that baseball game fanatics and people who have never played a single sports game will both enjoy.

The majority of any baseball game is pitching and hitting and this game balances out these two roles very well. When pitching you have a pitch assigned to each button and its as simple as aiming your pitch and releasing the button at the right time. While batting you have two options, a regular hit with the A button and a strong hit with the B button. Batting is all about timing and if you time your hits right you can also control the direction you're hitting with the left thumbstick.

What makes this game great is its use of "turbos". By building up your turbos you can increase your hitting capabilities or your pitching abilities. You can also use them for making amazing defensive plays or to speed up your base running. You get turbos by striking out batters, taking balls, getting hits, making plays, and just about anything else that helps your team. How well you use these turbos can make or break your game.

This game is over-the-top baseball at its best. It did take a little bit for me to adjust to fielding in the game, but once I figured that out I was fine. I have had a lot of fun playing through the rookie challenge and have also played this locally with some of my friends. It is a great game that even the most mild of baseball fans will enjoy.

OK, so i bought this game a couple days ago and WOW! I was SOO ready to take it back. i thought to myself, this is the dumbest game i have ever played... well, it was pretty much because i was getting beat soo bad and didnt know any of the controls...lol.

SOOO, i started the main aspect of the game(rookie challenge)and WOW, this game is ADDICTING! Really, once you get the controls down, timing your swings and throwing perfect pitches its GREAT!!!...gaining turbo and using it at the right time is HUGE...

this IS an arcade game, but playing at a more difficult skill level( i started at medium and i win some/loose some) will keep the games interesting and i havent had one game go more than 10 runs so its not like its 25 - 15 every game.

GET THIS GAME! Rent it, buy it, it doesnt matter. If you rent it im 99% sure you will thereafter purchase it...play the rookie challenge.

the ONLY drawback i have is the fans in the stadiums. dont get me wrong, the stadiums are BEAUUUUUUTIFUL! BUT after hitting homeruns, the background looking at the crowd is not that great compared the the player models which are VERY nice.

I downloaded the demo of The Bigs on Xbox Live last night and loved it! My first time through I got beat 22 to nothing in only 3 innings. Then the second time through I changed the skill level to easy and finally figured out the controls. Now that I can actually hit and the opposition isn't hitting everything I pitch I generally win 2-0 on easy. The first time you power up and crush one out of the park you'll feel like you're invincible! I've never really been a fan of baseball games, but this is one I highly recommend. I'm more of a casual gamer and this game is a blast!

Before buying this game, I saw other people had called it an arcade game. I was hesitant, but it's a baseball game, what could it really mean that would tarnish my gaming experience?

Now that I've had it for a couple of weeks and played it quite a bit, arcade has come to mean for me that:
1. The game is less realistic than usual. (E.G. points you earn for throwing strikes, taking balls, getting hits or making diving catches).
2. There really isn't a "Season" or "Franchise" mode. There is the Rookie Challenge, where you create your own player and bring him up through the big leagues and build his stats to have him become the MVP and what not.

The game is extremely addicting and fun. And the games are fast-paced a-la Ken Griffey Baseball for the Nintendo 64 (yes I'm comparing that far back, because it's hard to find good sports games).

Easy mode is fun for people who like the Overkill games (like me), winning by anywhere from 5 to 50 points, where Super Hard mode is incredibly challenging.

There are, however, things in the game I'd like to see fixed in the next incarnation of this series. One incredible frustration for me is the wall catches. And by that I mean that it is NOT hard to hit a ball hard enough for it to be a home run. But depending on how good a fielder the outfielder is (out of five stars), you're likely going to be robbed of a home run. Honestly, if the outfielder is at three stars or above, you can almost ALWAYS kiss your home run goodbye. They're going to catch it. But this is not inherently frustrating. What IS is that they get 25000 Power Points for making each catch. Once you reach 100,000 you have the option to either active Big Heat mode when pitching (makes every pitch extremely difficult to hit) or Power Blast mode when you're hitting (if you touch the ball it's a home run). So you can see how quickly they can amass enough points to use these.

The other frustration is in a similar vein. Almost always, the computer AI will intentionally measure their stride when running after a fly ball so that they can make a diving catch (and get power points, "Only" 17,500 of them for those). Again, they make the catch, what's the big deal. It's just very frustrating when you don't want them to build up their points so fast. If they get legitimate his or if they really DO have to dive to make a catch I'm totally fine with that. But when you hit a hard line drive and they job to make the catch (Or even worse, when you hit an infield line drive and they dive for it instead of just having the fielder move two feet to their left or right) it really gets to you.

Overall, though, these are manageable problems, and the game is worth playing.

The BIGS for Xbox 360 is a very fun, well-put-together game from 2K Sports. It's fast, arcadey, and slightly silly. It's very enjoyable, but has a few flaws- it has only a few modes, the AI is either too forgiving or too ridiculously good, and the concepts get old, as have the rosters in the 18 months since release.

It's available for <20 bucks now, so it's worth picking up.

The BIGS is by far the best and most entertaining baseball game I have played for any console. The cartoon style of play brings back memories of Slugfest but turbo and Powerblasts give the game an element of strategy. The timing of hitting the ball is very realistic: must be quick on the fastball but wait on the changeup and so forth. The game is actually quite a challenge when playing legitimate competition, and with the state baseball is in with steroids and huge players the characters look as they should: out of proportion and freakishly big. What I'm most impressed with is that the actual MLB players' faces look just like their characters on the BIGS. Whether you're a baseball fan or not this game is a must own.

The BIGS is big fun. This is my first baseball game in many many years and I am very much enjoying it.

The rookie creation is awesome. You setup a new player, select a position and team and then play a series of challenges (e.g., 5 inning game or top of 8th and you are down 2 runs). After succeeding in a challenge, you earn points which you can redeem to upgrade the speed, contact, power, arm, or glove for your rookie.

The game does involve some stratgey. When you earn 'turbo' points, you must decide on when to use it....on offense to get a big hit or defense to throw a mean curve ball for strike 3. The same is true when you earn enough points to have big heat or power hitting...which do you use...offense or defense. I will admit this feature is unrealistic as you easily hit a home run that puts a hole in the scoreboard, but it does add a bit of strategy.

The one on one game is also very good. The graphics are awesome and as a baseball fan who has only been to games in a dozen parks, it is pretty cool to see the graphics from the different baseball parks.

The game is well designed and BIG fun.

My 13 year old son enjoys this game, however not as much as the "war-type" games. I'm sure that athletes appreciate this much more than non-athletes. Quality of product is good and delivery time was prompt.

While no where near as insane as MLB Slugfest, this game still adds that extra flavor that makes this more fun to play. This game, while it does have a little realism, like player names and statistics, has a very exaggerated outlook on baseball. Two serperate bars a the top of the screen are the most important part of the game. The higher these bars, the more your ability to make outragous defensive plays and make every hit into a double or triple. A very fun game, but not for someone who wants a deep and realistic baseball experience.
