5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Journey!
I was getting so bored spinning alone. I purchased this bike-o-vison DVD-muted the volume and blasted my spin music---My heart rate stayed up to fat-burning zone and I did not even realize it as I focused on traveling in Oregon!I love the fall foliage. GREAT JOB BoV!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Fan
I purchased (1) Cycle Reebok: Foundations and Interval Training with Robert Sherman, (2) Mindy Mylrea's Super Cycle: The Best Ride in Town and (3) Bike-O-Vision Cycling DVD #12 Oregon at the same time. I have been very happy with the first two, and plan on selling the Oregon DVD shortly.

Robert Sherman's DVD is very focused on building strength and skill...

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC Cycling Ride Through Oregon!, July 28, 2007

This review is from: Bike-O-Vision Cycling DVD #12 Oregon (DVD)
Length:: 1:25 Mins

I'm an avid cyclist and I love working-out indoors if weather's bad. These Bike-O-Vision dvds are perfect visual rides for indoor cycling which have definitely kept me from getting bored. The price for the dvds is very good too.

In this dvd you follow routes through Oregon both inland under sunny blue skies, through evergreens and lush valleys, all the way up to the amazing Crater Lake where there is snow all year around and then out along Oregon's dramatic coast where you'll be riding past windy seaside cliffs and rock formed sea stacks. I love the upbeat music variety that moves from scene to scene.

Bike-O-Vision journeys keep you pushing forward. They have many rides in their collection so there's no reason to get bored doing indoor cycling. I like the lack of distracting commentary and pop-ups plus riders' on the screen in front of the nice views I want to see as in similar cycling DVDs I've used before. I'm glad I have Bike-O-Vision. I have all their dvds and keep enjoying them and wait for each new release. I recommend this dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crater Lake in winter - the Oregon coastline....WOW!, January 1, 2012

This review is from: Bike-O-Vision Cycling DVD #12 Oregon (DVD)
I had to do a paper in 5th grade on Crater Lake and finally got to see it in 1991 but THIS video is how I SHOULD have seen it, in the winter! I was fascinated from the very beginning of this DVD. Time goes so much faster while exercising if you can keep your mind engaged in watching (and learning) an area of the country you aren't familiar with. This is great for elliptical, treadmill or stationary bicycle workouts. Since I find the elliptical to be the hardest for me to keep going that is where I use it. Since I haven't used the elliptical enough to get used to it I only did 20 minutes at a time so it lasted me 3 days. The next time I would bet I could go much longer. I loved the coastline - those large rocks/boulders along the shore were fascinating. These are well shot and go at a good pace. The music changes every so many minutes so that doesn't get boring either. Well worth the investment - gorgeous scenery.

Robert Sherman's DVD is very focused on building strength and skill while maintaining control. He does have the intense, almost cheesy persona that others wrote about, but I find that I really like that. It helps me stay in his game, like he's always trying to hang on to you mentally. Robert talks a lot about staying internally focused, and makes it all about you and your experience. It's meditative in a way - he asks you to close your eyes, envision your body, stuff like that. My maximum heart rate is around 180, and with his workouts, I generally find myself in the 155-165 range, reaching 175 during the last set. He gives regular opportunities to recover and stretch.

Mindy Mylrea takes a different approach. Instead of the internal focus, she is very external - you are trying to catch up with a friend, pass a professional cycler and then run from a big dog. She keeps my heart range in the 165-175, with an occasion 180+. She keeps you running for longer intervals, and gives less recovery overall. She is very upbeat and smiley. I find both Mindy and Robert offer a likeable, valuable workout. Neither has great music, but I don't find myself noticing that very much.

Finally, I don't care much for the Oregon DVD. The music is classic and instrumental, though you could mute that and listen to your own stuff. The ride is pretty, but there's no real sense of hill climbing or speed. You completely have to make it up yourself. Also, sometimes you are sort of going uphill and then you switch to a different part of the road with no clear transition. I would rather spend my time watching DVD's of TV series I like than watch this while cycling.
