Grade 4-8. A straightforward, workmanlike biography of the president. The book opens with Clinton's reelection and a brief overview of his early years. Landau then follows her subject chronologically and ends once again with his reelection. Clinton's first presidential campaign is summed up in five brief paragraphs, while his first term and the scandals that have dogged him are given brief but adequate and evenhanded coverage. The unsuccessful nomination of Zoe Baird, Waco, the death of Vince Foster, and Whitewater are all mentioned. A final chapter summarizes Clinton's growing maturity and evolution into a more moderate politician. There is nothing new here, except that this book is more up-to-date than earlier Clinton biographies. Good-to-excellent quality, black-and-white and full-color photos appear throughout. Robert Cwiklik's Bill Clinton (Millbrook, 1997) is even shorter.
