Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 6-9-- This fast-paced, generally complimentary biography begins with reflections on the president's inauguration and includes quotes from his address and reference to the now-famous poem Maya Angelou delivered there. Clinton is depicted as a high-energy, outgoing individual suffused with the work ethic. His career is traced from his public school days, to his academic achievements as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, where his philosophy about the hard issues of civil rights and the Vietnam War evolved, and later to law school at Yale. No reference is made to Clinton's trip to the Soviet Union or his alleged organization of antiwar demonstrations. His decision to seek political office, his marriage, his tenure as governor of Arkansas, and the roller-coaster presidential campaign are all described. The book concludes with his election and a look forward to the potential of a Clinton administration. Some human glimpses behind the public figure are provided and a number of black-and-white photos are included. An interesting and useful treatment. --Sylvia V.
