4.0 out of 5 stars Questionable journalism but rings true
As I read this book, two things struck me. First, the book is fast and loose in terms of journalistic standards. Second, however, is that, based upon what we do know, much of it rings true. The real question, and one that objective people will answer yes, is "Do you think, based upon what we do know, that the Clintons are capable of this kind of behavior?"

3.0 out of 5 stars A look into the dynamics of a relationship.
I bought the book to get an idea of how the Clintons work and how they got where they are. What keeps them going, what keeps them together? I was not dissapointed but I was sadened by the insight. While the tale seems to hit the highlights of their journy together with more honesty than much of what is written about them, it is not spellbinding. I don't know if it...

While the tale seems to hit the highlights of their journy together with more honesty than much of what is written about them, it is not spellbinding. I don't know if it the writing or the subject. As the Clinton presidency nears the end we may not have seen the last of their political ambition. It is worth reading in order to understand what drives this ambitious couple.

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, un-professionally written smut novel!, December 29, 1999
This review is from: Bill and Hillary: The Marriage (Hardcover)
Even as a Republican whose stomach turns at the sight of Bill Clinton's face or the sound of his voice, I still found this collection of un-documented bachanalian anecdotes impossible to swallow.

The text contains absolutely no citations. At the end of the book, the author provides a partial list of people he consulted while doing his research.

Basically, all he did was take a sample of the most egregious stories from books such as All Too Human and Unlimited Access and weaves in with them a truckload of sordid second-hand rumors, and calls it an all-American love story.

The so-called author should face charges for character assasination. I don't doubt that some of the stories are true, nor am I casting the President as a victim of someone else's lies. The greatest victim in this story is Truth itself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save a tree. Wait for a real book., August 4, 1999

I saw the author on Larry King Live attempting to defend this book. He failed, as does the book. Nothing new here, except some non-attributed vitriolic spew.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly ordinary people..., December 3, 1999
This review is from: Bill and Hillary: The Marriage (Hardcover)
This book is not the inside story of the Worlds' most famous couple, but it is an enjoyable read all the same. Perhaps we'll have to wait a few more years to know the true ins-and-outs of this relationship. Bill is a fascinating man - the way he held on to not only Office but his marriage is almost unbelievable; Hillary, equally strong, but in a more subtle ways. I came to this book expected scandle, but realised that no matter how powerful a couple might be, behind closed doors they are very much human and quite, quite ordinary.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for me, August 25, 1999

Even if 1.453% of it is true, it still is wrong to write the other 99.547% This book makes me sad. Sad that in this wonderful nation we have such low standards for journalism. SInce you can't libel a dead person and you really have to try really really hard to libel a public figure, this book will sell and the author will get away with it - its just a shame that this kind of journalism goes on. The author should have disclosed in his book that his sources like L.D. Brown were paid by the American Spectator to tell their stories. What a shame...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bill and Hillary Should Never Have Married, February 13, 2000

This review is from: Bill and Hillary: The Marriage (Hardcover)
Many people have put this book down as trash. I do not. I couldn't put the book down as it fascinated me. It reveals Bill's and Hillary's lives from childhood to their marriage to the presidency. It tells of how they met and all of Hillary's hygiene habits - which were few - during her college days. (I was in college when they were and I shaved my legs, used deodorant, and washed and combed my hair. Why Hillary didn't is a mystery to me.) There were facts in this book that I had not read or heard about before. Bill is a Rhodes scholar. Hillary cussed and hollered at Bill 85% of their marriage. She knew that he was a womanizer before she married him and married him anyway. Before the White House, she had him investigated by private detectives and knew of his huge amount of indiscretions so her boo-hoo sobbing over the Monica thing is redundant. Both had hidden agendas when they married each other. She could ride on Bill's coattails to the White House and Bill could pick her brain when he needed to. Maybe Hillary really loved Bill, but Bill married her for political reasons only. He calls her "The Warden" to many of his conquests, ladies of the evening and long-standing girlfriends. What kind of love is that? The author did not take sides - he just wrote his interviews and findings in a very interesting and easy-to-read forum. I knew Hillary was a cold woman and Bill was likeable and easy, but with a temper out of the public eye. This book reveals behind-the-scenes instances of these character flaws. Did you know Bill was found groping a woman in the bathroom at his and Hillary's wedding reception? Did you know the extent of Vince and Hillary's affair...just how serious it really was? Did you know that Hillary is partly responsible for Vince's deep depression and ultimate suicide? Did you know that Bill met with Sharon Stone? You have got to read this book and find out these shocking details that were only vaguely touched on in the media.

1.0 out of 5 stars Full of unsubstanitated conjecture., October 31, 1999
This review is from: Bill and Hillary: The Marriage (Hardcover)
It was absolutely appalling to me that books like this are allowed to be published. I could not find one shred of documentation for any of the "stories" that were told in the book. Perhaps, this book is in the fiction area and therefore anything the author chose to write is ok. I would strongly urge people who read this book or any other like it that they look for the source of the so-called facts. I've spent some time reading the never ending pile of books written about the Clinton's. If you check the facts you will find most of them sadly lacking. Try reading the one by James Ritter, carefully documented by fact. The only people who would like this book would be people who are not interestd in facts, but who choose to spread gossip.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hearsay that is probably true.........sad and intriguing, September 1, 1999
This review is from: Bill and Hillary: The Marriage (Hardcover)
I expect this book isn't entirely true.....but it is plausible and probably closer to the entire truth than we Americans are comfortable with. Yes, it's discomforting to think that "the most powerful man in the world" could be so out of control; however, i can't be so naive to think that these things couldn't of happened. Let's be truthful folks........this is a totally engrossing book, whether you're shocked or saddened by it, or both!

5.0 out of 5 stars WE ALL LIVE IN THE LAND OF APATHY!!, August 24, 1999

This review is from: Bill and Hillary: The Marriage (Hardcover)
This book is probably 90% true, but who cares. My stock portfolio is growing and the economy is booming so I am dancing in the streets. This is Clinton country where money rules over values and common sense. What will we do when these two wonderful people leave office. We need them to take care of us, and I hope my children grow up to be just like them. They are the ultimate role models.
