The Real Bill,
By
This review is from: Bill Medley - Damn Near Righteous (Audio CD)
Wow, what a surprise and what a GREAT CD. What a great BLUES album - forget "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," this is the real Bill Medley, it's quite obvious. I'll just focus on one song, "Something Blue." Put simply, it's beautiful, it's heartbreaking and it's chilling especially if you've ever broken up with someone, especially if you're a man who's gone through the scenario laid out in the song. Bill's voice isn't pure, far from it, but its cracks are like cracks in a fine oil painting. It's REAL. This song (and the entire CD) floors you because it's a human being's voice, not that of an airbrushed vocalist surrounded by handlers and synchophants. If there's a shred of justice left in radio this song deserves major airplay somewhere, somehow. Congratulations Bill for such a fine piece of work in a later chapter of your life, and thanks for resisting overproduction and pandering to a younger generation. This is a small masterpiece by a singer who just might have his very best years ahead of him. Hope so.

A Different Bill Medley,
By
This review is from: Bill Medley - Damn Near Righteous (Audio CD)
Bill Medley once again shows another side to his musical talent and the true artist in him. You will hear and SEE another Bill Medley and listen to his life's lessons. He has so many multi talents and musical sides to Bill Medley, no wonder he keeps on being so RIGHTEOUS in his own way. Bill always Medleyizes a song even one that was done by someone else and he makes it sound so completely different and makes you look at it from a completely different angle. This one is for the Baby Boomers, the ones that have experienced life and some sad and lonely times in life and love. The DVD that comes with it is great and it truly shows Bill and how he is today and where is life is at now at 67 years wonderful.

Beautiful!,

This review is from: Bill Medley - Damn Near Righteous (Audio CD)
Just got Damn Near Righteous. As cliched as "beautiful" sounds, I can't find any other word to describe it. For a long time Righteous Brothers fan like me, I've come to expect excellence in all that they have done, because as those of us who grew up with the Righteous Brothers know, there has never been anything like them. This CD is more than excellent. All of the years of life come out in his voice. It seems to say that no matter what, life does go on and still has beauty.

Damn Near!,

His voice is even better at this age. Bill Medley embodies the word "Soul." There is a great rendition of "In My Room." He can sing the blues with the best of them, and that gravel-laced voice...great in my book!

This is a great CD by Bill Medley! Having Phil Everly and Brian Wilson sing on the cut "In My Room" makes it even more special and exciting! The original songs are well done and thought provoking. A great listen for anyone! Time for a comeback the likes of Tony Bennett! Bill's Back!

Rightgeous, indeed,

What a pleasure this CD is! It's so rare these days to hear real soul sung by somebody who's lived real life and knows how to communicate it. Ordinarily I'm not happy with a CD that has so many ballads, but the feeling is so intense on these slow numbers here that they have more impact than most singers' uptempo songs. "Something Blue" and "Just a Woman" absolutely put chills up my spine. And the more raucous songs are absolutely rocking. "I'll Find Someone Who Will" is a massive wall of soul. There are a couple of moments on the CD where the production is a little more Nashville-slick than Medley's voice deserves, but that's nit-picking. This is a tremendously satisfying album in every way--not a false note, calculated flourish, or gratuitous expression anywhere. Bobby would be proud.

Damn Near Righteous- and Definitely Fabulous,
This review is from: Bill Medley - Damn Near Righteous (Audio CD)
Bill Medley - Damn Near RighteousI heard the NPR interview with Bill Medley and several cuts from the CD and decided I wanted to purchase the CD. The cuts played on NPR did not do the CD justice. It is an excellent collection of songs, some quite unexpected. The duet with his daughter was an added bonus.

this rendition of "in my room" is beyond any comparison - it is a truly soulful adult version of one of brian wilson's finest teenage anthems. His verison of "just like a women" is amazing and the other song rock.It is rightous!

This review is from: Bill Medley - Damn Near Righteous (Audio CD)
Bill Medley's latest CD, Damn Near Righteous is fantastic. He sounds better than ever, and the songs he chose to record are heartfelt. I hope he never stops recording and sharing his music with his fans. It's going to be hard to top this latest CD, but I know Bill will. The DVD is such a nice touch and shows his class and deep love for music.Karen Musilek |
