4.0 out of 5 stars why not 5 stars?
This is an absolutely adorable book! My kids both love it. They love the "OOOOOOOO's" and mistaking "stinks" for "sphinx." And the already mentioned "toothbrush" thing just gets my nearly-6-yo rolling. I like it, too, but I give it four out of five stars because "shut up" is in the text. I really don't want my kids hearing it, even from a known "bad guy." I replace...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but inaccurate
As a grandmother I enjoyed reading the book to my grandchild until I came across the words "weird looking" to describe the sphinx. The sphinx is anything but "weird." I'm sure the author can think of a better description. Caught by surprise I used the word "unusual" and added that it has the face of a person but the paws of cat. Also the Bad Guy and the women in the...

I really don't want my kids hearing it, even from a known "bad guy." I replace it with "hush," but my 5-yo is reading now and he reads it to me as it is written. Just a warning for you "shut-up'-is-a-bad-word households.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't forget to pack your toothbrush!, April 25, 2000
By A Customer
Can William Everett (a young Crocodile) and Pete (his toothbrush) save the Sacred Eye of Isis from the Bad Guy and get home to Mama in time for dinner? This is a grand preschool adventure story, presented with charming illustrations and exoctic natural history. Taken together with the first in the series, "Bill and Pete" these are two of our favorites!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bill and Pete Go down the Nile by Will Herman, March 13, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile (Paperstar) (Paperback)
I personally thought that this was a very good book for young children. It is about a young crocodile called Bill and his toothbrush named Pete. Bill goes to school everyday and when he comes home he tells his mom everything that happened that day. The funny thing about this is that Bill usually gets the words confused because they are about Egyptian things, so they are very big and complicated. Bill and Pete go on a field trip with their teacher to see all the things shes taught them about, and to see the Sacred Eye of Isis, the most valuable jewel in the world.
When Bill and Pete are excused from lunch, he goes to brush his teeth and when he comes back the suspicous looking man they had seen was trying to rob the Sacred Eye of Ibis. The man puts Bill in a sarcophagus and trys to steal the Eye. Pete ends up getting toilet paper and wrapping the man up like a mummy and everything is saved. My favorite character was Pete because hes not any ordinary toothbrush, he is very brave and has lots of courage. This was a very good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very educational book, August 25, 2001
This book teaches everything from Egypt to good manners. It teaches good habits like brushing your teeth after meals, how to prepare and the events of a field trip and the age old good verses evil by pointing out the "bad guy". It's impressive how much info this little book packs into itself. The bird being a toothbrush is a bit confusing though. I guess its a joke.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to the Nile, November 19, 2003
By A Customer

My 6 year old is learning about Egypt with my 4 year old trying to take in as much as he can, this book was great for both of them. My 4 year old could understand it and of course the "toothbrush" was quite silly but my 6 year old got a good chuckle from it too.

Bill the Crocodile and Pete the Bird (who is also Pete's TOOTHBRUSH!) are ready for their first school field trip. It's a very exciting time as the two friends encounter the Sphinx, the Pyramids, the Eye of Isis, and...a BAD GUY intent on stealing! This wonderful little book teaches kids that learning CAN be fun, exciting, and sometimes even a little goofy.
