A new fun story brings you back to Oz. Great gift!,
By H.R.A. Cane "Holly" (Portland, Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bill and The Purple Cow in Oz (Paperback)
I bought this book because I love everything Oz, and I was NOT disappointed! This book has great illustrations to help your imagination along, and my son loved them. The brand new characters come to life and soon have you rooting for them.
This is just good fun, no worries about the content or need to censor. My kids loved the talking animals. While this may be considered a "children's" book, there are puns and plays on words that the adult reader will enjoy. It is a most welcome addition to our Oz collection. I hope there are more on the way from this author. I am buying more copies to give as gifts.

This is a wonderful book that I found in the children's book section of the book store, but I very much enjoyed it myself. I read it with my baseball playing son, and he quickly identified with the main character, Bill Potts from San Diego.
Bill's baseball plans get rained out, but he ends up having a great weekend adventure after all, in Oz. The characters are all new, and although the Scarecrow does have a minor part, it is very much a brand new Oz story. The babbling brook was wonderful, A.M. Healer reminded me of a pharmacist I knew as a child, and my son now pretends our carpet runners are magic like the one in this book. This book would appeal to many people as it has talking animals (they can talk in Oz) and the young readers can relate to Bill. I loved this book because it took me back to Oz, but was completely new and different from the famous movie. There are also deeper values in this book, like not judging someone on their appearance, accomodating needs without a second thought, sharing, working together as a team, and not giving up because of some obstacles. These are all values that our children do not get enough of today. I was so pleased with my purchase that I am recommending this to all our carpool kids, and the school library.

This book caught my attention because of OZ. I bought it, and my daughter and I devoured it the same night.
My daughter loved the new characters, it was like a whole new trip to Oz. While the Scarecrow was nice to encounter as he is my daughter's favorite, he played a minor part. The main character, Bill, reminded her of a schoolmate, and she now wishes she were Princess Betsy Batters. She also wants her own talking purple cow. I would highly recommend this to any parent looking for a fun read for their children, and I bet you will enjoy it just as much as the children.

"Bill and the Purple Cow in Oz" is a charming, captivating story which is delightful for young readers, as well as the young at heart. It makes a wonderful gift for the young reader in your life AND is the perfect addition to any grandparent's bookshelf. The author has artfully created a new generation of Oz-like adventures for the present generation. Well done! I'm looking forward to the next book!

I bought this as a gift for my nephew. I was hoping he would like the main character, as he also likes baseball. He loved it.
This is a very well written book that takes us back to Oz, but in a whole new way. Bill is whooshed away to Oz by mistake, but discovers that there are many ways into Oz. The other characters that he meets and travels with are really fun. My nephew wants to have a friend like Norman. This story wrapped up nicely while leaving the possibilty of another trip to Oz. I really liked the way it all came together at the end, with a few surprizes. I would recommend this without hesitation, and I hope there are more stories on the way about Bill and his friends.

Wonderful addtion to the Oz stories,
By Noel Barrett "Noel" (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bill and The Purple Cow in Oz (Paperback)
This is a wonderful new book that took me right back to the land of Oz. I had not been there in years. Through the main character's eyes, I revisited the land I loved so much as a child. However, this author makes many clever puns and plays on words so that this is very enjoyable for the adult reader.
And after reading this book, I hope there are more on the way from this author. I would recommend this without any reservations. It is well written, has a clever plot with surprizing twists, and yet he ties it all together in the end. Five stars. |
