4.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Soft Rock Compendium
Like soft rock? You'll like this. There are some cool tunes in the 80s rock genre here - 'Play with Me' by Extreme and 'Two Heads...' by Power Tool (featuring Dweezil Zappa, incidentally). Amazing ballads - 'Walk Away' by Bricklin and 'In Time' by Robbie Robb. If you like stuff by Bon Jovi or 'Jump'-era Van Halen you should seriously consider this thang, man...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap guitar thrills!!
Most of the music on this soundtrack is from bands that were preparing to release debut albums or from people "in the scene" at the time who cobbled together a band for fun.
Extreme has the first track here, which also appeared on their debut shortly thereafter in a slightly different form. Silly lyrics, absolutely killer guitar work by Nuno. The man absolutely...

In total a very good album for those who love the music of the time, or the film. Remember the scene with Beethoven rocking out on the keyboard at the mall? - on the album. Remember where Bill and Ted end up in the future and the futurians are standing around waving manically? - on the album. Get it. Soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bill and Ted's EXCELLENT Soundtrack!, April 9, 2000
By
This review is from: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989 Film) (Audio CD)
Plain and simple...this album is excellent! The most mentionable songs on this album (in my opinion) are 1. In Time"- Robbie Robb (played as they visited the three excellent dudes in the future) 2. "Walk Away"- Bricklin (played as they introduced their legendary "guests" for their history project) 3. "Play With Me"- Extreme (played during their attack on the mall) 4. "Two Heads Are Better Than One"- PowerTool (later known as the duo NELSON) (played over the end credits. Even thought the soundtrack to the sequel did better commercially, THIS is the better soundtrack.

The man absolutely shreds.
Glenn Burtnick is here. He is mostly a songwriter who has written hits for all kinds of people from Cyndi Lauper to Jo Dee Messina. A musician's musician, Jon Bon Jovi recruited him for the original inception of Bon Jovi in the early 80's. He puts together a nice, fun piece.
Shark Island was supposed to be big and therefore have 2 tracks here. For some reason they didn't make it but the songs are great.
The only other band worth mentioning is Power Tool. However you probably know them better from their massive hit album a couple years later called "After the Rain", recorded under the more familiar name of Nelson. Yup, the twin sons of Ricky Nelson with the flowing blonde locks. Their recording career started right here, folks.
Beyond that, it is what it is. Guitar rock for a teen movie from the 80's.

This album always brings me back to when life was good. If you are trying to make an 80's collection this would be the first item to get.

I first saw the movie in the theaters. then i got the album. The movie became a sleeper cult classic. The album got tossed aside, but is a sleeper too. It is filled with a mix of fun, and true to the movie. It has music that all people I have talked to enjoy, and wonder where to get. Those who know the movie, or have heard about it know the music, and know the artists htat perform on the soundtrack... It is a chance to hear them all in a different light, or in their true light. This album is worth every penny and more because of the mix of music, and the artists found on it. I have had the CD stolen from me three times, and I continue buying it because you will never find a rock soundtrack any better.

This review is from: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989 Film) (Audio CD)
This is a quality soundtrack to follow up a quality film. The only bad thing I can say about it is that you dont get the song Bill and Ted hear in the futre. The one about dancing in the street. Its a top quality soundtrack a must have for every one that was born before 1990. Buy it now

3.0 out of 5 stars WYLD STALYNS!, April 9, 2005

This review is from: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989 Film) (Audio CD)
This soundtrack to the famous teen comedy, "Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure" is a great CD. This is pure Wyld Stalyns music. The whole CD is nothing but non-stop Rock and Roll. Included in this soundtrack is an excellent selection of music to capture the late 1980s.

The greatest tracks included on this CD are: "Boys and Girls Are Doing It" by Vital Signs (song while Napoleon is having fun on the Waterslides). This is an OUTSTANDING party tune. Great riffs and pure genious lyrics. You only heard half of what a materpiece this song is during the movie. The next track, "Not So Far Away" by Glen Burtnik is a great rock ballad. Very nice lyrics and great melody.

A couple tracks later, you'll hear a Heavy Metal classic by Shark Island, "Father Time" (when Rufus is getting ready to go back in time). This tune rocks all the way through. For five minutes you hear the greatest array of guitar solos ever! This song is definitely a masterpiece. Another pretty good tune is "I Can't Break Away" (during opening of the movie) by Big Pig. This is a cool tune with some interesting keyboard sounds and the female vocalist is great. Finally, one of the greatest ballads of all time, "In Time" (when Bill and Ted visit the future) by Robbi Robb. Outstanding lyrics and a very loving melody. Ballads may not get any better than this.

For those of you that loved the movie, now own the phenomenal soundtrack. "Be excellent to each other and Party on dudes."

5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't think I was getting that old!, February 25, 2008

This review is from: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989 Film) (Audio CD)
In reviewing the Soundtrack of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure I "almost" had to admit, "I'm not as young as I used to be." But that's O.K., niether are the stars of this delightful movie about two teenagers "comming of age". I saw the film in 1989, when it was released, and I loved it. Nineteen years later, I still love it! It is timeless. And it introduced us to a young Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves. Watching it nineteen years later, however, what caught my attention, this time, was the great Soundtrack of the movie. I was overjoyed to find I could grab this Soundtrack at this venue.
If you really think hard (harder now, for some of you) you may recall that, as Bill and Ted exit their high school -- having silenced all of their critics with the help of their phonebooth/time machine -- they leave, in glory, with an "excellent" (no pun intended) soundtrack ushering them out. The song is "Two Heads Are Better Than One" by a group called Power Tool. Other great songs (in the movie) include "Walk Away" by Bricklin, and "The boys and the Girls Are Doing It" by Vital Signs. If you wish to feel suddenly "younger," if you want your own "phonebooth/time machine," I strongly recommend you attain this Soundtrack; and, pretty soon, you will be "attaining" the DVD version of Bill & Ted's movie. It truly is, "most excellent."

5.0 out of 5 stars A most excellent CD! Party on Dudes!, December 1, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989 Film) (Audio CD)
I'm a huge Bill & Ted fan, for I absolutely love the movies! I also absolutely love the music, it is indeed most excellent!

This soundtrack is to the Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. It is indeed a most excellent CD; it's that good. Every song is excellent, and not a single one is bad at all; a perfect CD with lots of classics! I'll list why each song is great, or not so great, and also where they can be found in the movie.

1.Play with Me - Extreme = (This can be found: When the historical figures are running amok at the San Dimas Mall.) One of my favorite scenes in the movie! This is one of my all time favorite songs on the entire CD! It's filled with lots and lots of guitar, that's gonna make you wanna play along; even if you got an air guitar! Also for Guitar Hero fans, you can find this song on Guitar Hero Rock the 80's! 10/10

2. The Boys and the girls are doing it - Vital Signs (This can be found: When Napoleon discovers the joy of watersliding at Waterlo Water Slide park.) One of my absolute favorite scenes in the entire movie; got to love Napoleon! This is one of my all time favorite songs on the entire CD, that always makes me sing along to, as well as jam along to it! As Napoleon would say, it's Fantastique! 10/10

3.Not so Far Away - Glen Burtnick = (It's a bit difficult to make out, but it's in the background during Bill and Ted's final history report starting from the time when Freud is analyzing Ted.) This is a geat ballad, and is excellent to sing along to! One of my new favorites! 9/10

4.Dancing with a Gypsy - Tora Tora = (This can be found: Playing on the car stereo when Missy stops by Ted's house after picking Bill and Ted up from school.) This was a pretty good song, and I had to realize where it was at in the movie at first. It's got a nice groove, and will make you jam along as well! 9/10

5.Father Time - Shark Island = (This can be found: As Missy's car pulls away from Ted's house and throughout the forming of the phone booth in the future as Rufus looks on.) Another one of my favorite scenes in the movie! This is indeed one of my all time favorite songs on the entire CD! Awesome singing, lyrics, and killer guitar riffs! As Rufus and the 3 Great Ones would say: Be excellent to each other, and party on dude! 10/10

6.I can't break away - Big Pig = (This can be found: Over the opening credits when the future crystal which will form the phone booth comes down.) I can't believe what some people say about this song; the reviews on here say people don't like it! Forget I said that! This song is indeed without a doubt one of the greatest songs on the entire CD. If you are a true Bill & Ted, you would know what I mean if you watch the beginning of the movie! It always gets me singing, and jamming along! It a song that can easily get stuck inside your head; trust me, it does! LOL! :D 10/10

7.Dangerous - Shark Island = (When Missy brings Bill and Ted burned grilled cheese sandwiches while they're studying in Bill's room until Bill's dad kicks Bill out of his own room.) Another one of my favorite scenes in the movie; "It's your mom dude!" "I just got a minor oedipal complex!"! LOL! This is indeed one of my all time favorite songs on the entire CD! Shark Island is indeed a most excellent band! 10/10

8.Walk Away - Bricklin = (This can be found: When Billy the Kid comes onstage at San Dimas High to introduce Bill & Ted and during the first part of their history report.) You'll tell right away when this song starts it comes from that scene! "How's it goin, I'm Billy the Kid. I would like you all to put your hands together!" so put you hands together for one awesome song on this CD. It is indeed good! 10/10

9.In Time - Robbie Rob = (When Bill and Ted visit the future and the future babes and dudes come out to greet them. Also at the end of the movie when Rufus visits and brings the princess babes and Bill and Ted find out about their most unprecedented future success.) This is without one of the greatest songs on the CD, and it's also to one of the best scenes in the entire movie! You can't just help yourself playing air guitar to this song! Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes! 10/10

10.Two heads are better than one - Power Tool (When Bill and Ted are picking up Joan of Arc, Genghis Khan and Abraham Lincoln in the phone booth and again over the end credits.) This is without a doubt one of the most bodacious songs on the entire CD. An excellent rock anthem, and for those true Bill & Ted fans, you'll want to sing and jam to this song just about every day! This song is a winner in my book! 10/10

If you absolutely love the Bill & Ted movies and music, get this CD; you just may like it!

And most importantly, do not listen to this CD without wearing headphones! And party on dudes! :D

How's it going, dudes? If you liked the 1989 film Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, you'll love this soundtrack! It has songs from some "unknown", but MOST triumphant bands, including "The Boys and Girls Are Doing It" by Vital Signs, which is the best song. The rest are MOST excellent too! You gotta get it! These bands, like Bill & Ted's band, Wyld Stallyns, are MOST triumphant!! So, "Be excellent to each other", and "Party on, Dudes!"
