5.0 out of 5 stars Best Music Reference
This book is enormous fun and a great reminder of past favorites. The revised edition has so many new entries it's like a whole new book. It's wonderful that it includes so many very recent hits and, amazingly, even Clay Aiken's big hit, "This is the Night."

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat deceptive
This book purports to give the inside story on all the number one Billboard hits for the past 40 years. Well, that's what I would like to have seen, and the reason I bought the book. Info like where did the idea for the song come from, what was the creative process for producing the song, what did it take to get it recorded, were there any speed bumps along the way, what...

4.0 out of 5 stars It Ain't Number One Till It's Number One in Billboard, October 15, 2001

Fred Bronson has done a yeoman job of telling rock fans the stories behind the hits-The fourth edition stops in 1997,when Elton John topped the Billboard Hot 100 with "Candle In The Wind 1997"-Obviously,a fifth edition of this tome is forthcoming-When it will be released is anyone's guess-In the meantime, enjoy & savor the information presented within-By the way,I have to admit that the title of my review came from nationally syndicated air personality Don Imus-But you have to admit it makes sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Treasure!, October 26, 2003
By A Customer
Fred Bronson's book is a real treasure! What a fabulous reference for all the number one Billboard hits! The book is engaging and engrossing - I took my copy to work where several folks who saw it now are ordering it as well.

From Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock to This is the Night by Clay Aiken - every number one hit is covered here. I'd love to meet Fred Bronson, he must be a walking encyclopedia of the music industry. This is a must have book for any music fan. Just superb! I would highly recommend this book to anyone. It is absolutely fascinating and well put together. THE definitive book on #1 hits, music history.

This is a great revision to a wonderful source book. It's fun to read, filled with interesting facts and surprises and very timely. It's most impressive to be available with the most recent entry being Clay Aiken's hit single. You can't ask for anything more current.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC REFERENCE GUIDE FOR MUSIC LOVERS, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Billboard Book of Number One Hits (Paperback)
This book is a fantastic book for music lovers. It gives the number one songs along with a summary that gives more than enough information for one to read. Also, the details about the specific songs tell of how the song or songs came about and a brief summary of the musical number. It is a definitive must for record collectors, or music lovers nationwide who want to broaden their knowledge of good old American rock and roll. From rock's early days to the current modern version of rock, this book lets you experience the changes and the feel of the number one saga. I advise anyone who has had a turntable, or just loves to listen to music to buy and read this book. After you are finished reading it, it serves as a great reference guide for data on a certain song or artist. Certainly a book one cannot do without. I give it my highest rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun and wonderful history, November 2, 2003
By A Customer
I really enjoyed this book. You could relive moments in the past through their connection to the music of the time. Unfortunately, I had two hours of enjoyable reading before my husband decided he absolutely had to read it. So I'm waiting for my turn back. Obviously a total success at our house!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to start or settle a hundred arguments, October 24, 2003
By
Connemara (Arlington, VA United States) - See all my reviews
Great level of detail about songs that can bring back amazing memories. I'd never realized the Beatles had had the top 5 songs on the charts at one time. Or that Paula Abdul had that many number one songs. I can see myself and my friends referring to this book time and again when arguing about songs we've loved or hated.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sensational book, May 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Billboard Book of Number One Hits (Paperback)
This is one book that you can pick up 100 times and learn something new each time. What you're learning is far more than mere rock trivia. It is the history of a very important element of our times. Some of the #1 stars fought the odds for a lifetime and finally prevailed. Others got there by generous doses of pure luck. Either way, the stories behind the music make for terrific reading. Thanks to Fred Bronson for creating this extraordinary book.
