It focuses primarily on the early 1990s, but this compilation is a really good overview of some forgotten acts. Some hard to find songs, such as "If Wishes Came True" and "I'll Be Your Everything" are here. All of these songs, with the exception of "Hold On" by En Vogue were #1 pop hits (it peaked at #2, close enough). This compilation also includes the beautiful "I Don't Have the Heart" and the overused-for-compilations "To Be With You". In addition, the classic "Black Velvet" is here, as is "I Ador Mi Amor", a forgotten Spanglish tune by Color Me Badd. The weirdest song here is the borderline-novelty "Informer", by Snow. The album also includes "Romantic" by Karen White, one of the last hits of the pre-Soundscan era. An essential (and bargain priced) compilation for early-90s pop fans.

Over the last six months or so I've been going through a fit of nostalgia for the decade I grew up in - the 90s. This remembrance has led me to buy various compilations of the decade such as this one. I have also been buying them to get away from the Digital Rights Management (DRM) hassles of the various digital download services.

On first glance this album seems good. The price is right and the sound quality is very good for recordings that are now 10 to 15 years old. The song selection is good but not great. Of the ten tracks, I mostly think of them as pop with a few traces of rock and R&B. Favorite tracks include Sweet Sensation's "If Wishes Came True", Karyn White's "Romantic", and Silk's "Freak Me". There are also really bad tracks such as Snow's "Informer" and Color Me Badd's "I Adore Mi Amor". Speaking of the artists themselves, the selections consist of performers who had their time back in the day and have since faded away. For example - who remembers Tommy Page? I sure don't.

The pluses highlighted above hide a few negatives. The first has to do with the accuracy of the claim of being all #1 hits. In reality it isn't. En Vogue's "Hold On" only peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990. The cover also says "Freak Me" peaked at #1 in 1994; this feat really happened in 1993. With something that has the Billboard name, one would think that accuracy would be top notch. Another negative has to do the time span of this collection, which only goes to 1990 to 1993. With this limitation, it misses any #1 hits after this date.

Related to this complaint is the number of tracks. I find if hard to believe that the label could shrink ten years of #1 hits into ten tracks.

My sister collects these CDs and some are a bit hard to find. I'm not sure if she's listened to it yet but it she definitely enjoyed getting it.
