4.0 out of 5 stars Great R & B, July 11, 2000
This review is from: Billboard Hot R&B 1982 (Audio CD)
This is a fine collection of songs from the Billboard series. The album opens up with a bang, Marvin Gaye's super smash hit "Sexual Healing". Ray Parker Jr.'s "The Other Woman" is a nice mix of rock & soul, with it's kicking guitar riff. "Mama Used To Say" by Junior is an unfortunately overlooked song and it's nice to see it included here. "Early In The Morning" by the Gap Band & "Dance Floor" by Zapp will get you moving. These two bands have been sampled numerous times in hip hop, especially as part of the west coast g-funk scene. "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" pulled off the rare achievement for Hall & Oates as they are one of a handfull of white artists to hit number one on the R & B charts. It was deserved as this song is smooth Philly soul. There is a clunker or two, "Circles" & Aretha's "Jump To It", but overall it's a very solid compilation and worth checking out.
