This is a pretty good album,

If you're truly looking for some old and rare songs that can't be found in a cd store or the cd is not availaible, this album is the best choice. I have sampled all the songs there and liked most of them. However, I personally found some of the songs there cheesy (no names mentioned). I was glad I found this album and personally, I liked tracks: 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 10 the best. Sadly, I think there should have been a few more tracks and more research done on the music, though it is already very good.

Blast from the Past,

So, I wanted a copy of Richard Marx singing, "Right Here Waiting", but I didn't want one of his cd's. My answer, was to buy the Billboard Top Hits of 1989. I have to say, this is a great album. The songs are a little cheesy, but hey, I was once a raging New Kids fan, so I can appreciate hearing "Hanging Tough". The album is a collection of 'where are they now' artists, and it's fun to listen to music that was popular when I started jr. high. I definately recommend this album.

"Cheesy"? How About Great!,

I don't understand what is so "cheesy" about the '89 Billboard CD songs, as the previous posters suggest! These were among the big hits of the day! I have fond memories of the year, back when I was young grade-school aged and humming to all these songs while in the back seat of my family's van. Though, there are three popular songs missing that a review of 1989 should, in my opinion, include: Roxette's "The Look," Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire," and Fine Young Cannibals' "She Drives Me Crazy." These must have been top hits---at least among the Top 3 for a week or two, given how ofen I heard them. I used to love these songs. Why, I still do!

I've had this CD for a few years now, and I continue to listen to it. I love it! I have checked out of the other "billboard" CDs, but this one is the best in my opinion. I think it has a good mix of songs form 1989. I don't hear many of them anymore. I highly suggest this CD!

This is a good collection of hits from 1989 and has many songs on here I like. I still here these songs on the radio all the time so it's not like I haven't heard these songs before but they are missing on major hit of 1989 "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul I am a little bit upset over that but hey I will live with that. it is a good collection, I recommend it.

A pretty good representation of 1989,

I admit I love the '80s for all the cheesy music that came out of that decade. I loved everything from hair metal to some insipid pop music. There was a lot of good music that came out of the '80s (like Depeche Mode and Erasure) and then there was garbage (New Kids on the Block and Tiffany). I bought "Billboard Top Hits: 1989" primarily for the Martika song "Toy Soldier". "Toy Soldier" really helped defined the cheesiness of the '80s, along with Debbie Gibson's "Lost in Your Eyes" and Warrant's "Heaven". I was a big Debbie Gibson fan back in the '80s. She was the only teen pop artist that I liked, everyone else was just noise to my ears. Warrant was definitely not one of my favorite hair metal bands but I did love "Heaven". It is a beautiful and sappy ballad. I so loathe New Kids On the Block, especially "Hangin' Tough" but listening to the song on this compilation makes me laugh because it is so bad. I thought that Bad English's "When I See You Smile" ranked right up there on the cheese-o-meter with Journey's "Open Arms", vomit-inducing at best. I love "Eternal Flame", definitely one of my favorite ballads from The Bangles who I think helped personify the '80s with their catchy pop/rock music. Tears For Fears' "Sowing the Seeds of Love" was certainly not one of the band's best songs. It isn't awful but I didn't think it was anything as good as "Shout" or "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". I can't stand Donny Osmond. He is by far the worst artist on this compilation. He wasn't good in the '70s, he wasn't good in the '80s. I so loathe this guy's attempt at being a serious rock musician. He is too darn cheesy for my tastes. I have to admit that I actually like "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx. Big guilty pleasure. I kinda like Gloria Estefan's "Don't Wanna Lose You" but I prefer her more uptempo songs over her ballads. Listening to this cd brings back memories when I had no taste in music whatsoever. LOL!
