4.0 out of 5 stars Very nicely done Eva Cassidy tribute song
Billy Ray has said in recent interviews that "Over The Rainbow" was included in the album as a tribute to the late singer, Eva Cassidy, who's own cover is now regarded as a classic. Like many of the other songs on this album, OTR is straight from this singer/dancer's heart and deserves to be called a tribute and not a copy. Nicely done. The entire album is very...

3.0 out of 5 stars Home At Last
This is a pleasant CD, but there's not much that's memorable on it except the song about his daughter leaving home. He does a nice job on Over the Rainbow, also.

The entire album is very enjoyable and is yet another suprise from an artist who remains "current" in american pop culture.

In his own introduction of the album, Bill Ray closes with the following: I pray this music touches your heart and soul, for it is born out of mine. And if it does, then we have something in common...we are "Home At Last."

I have found more than one thing in common with Billy Ray who I must thank for the invitation to his home, a place Eva's fans will be happy to sit and have a listen for a while.

I am a relatively new fan of Billy Ray Cyrus' work, and I think this album is marvelous. Original material, such as "Ready, Set, Don't Go," sits alongside excellent covers of such classics as "Brown-Eyed Girl." Cyrus' pleasant baritone and energetic style on each of the songs make this a piece a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars `Home At Last' is one of BRC's best!, July 25, 2007

What an awesome CD! `Home At Last' is flat out good music. Any of us who are parents will relate to the message and emotion in `Ready, Set. Don't Go'. Billy Ray wrote the song about his daughter Miley, but the first time I heard it I thought about my son growing up. It's a beautiful song that deserves to be heard on radio stations around the country.

`The Beginning' is also a fantastic song that I hope country radio will embrace. It has the potential to be a big hit on its own and hopefully it will be the second single from the CD. `Flying By' is also a favorite of mine. It talks about life flying by and I don't think there has ever been a truer song written.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who call Billy Ray Cyrus a `one hit wonder' because of his mega crossover hit `Achy Breaky Heart'. Nothing could be further from the truth! People who think that have been missing a lot of great music through the years and `Home At Last' is another example of great music from BRC.

Ignore any negative reviews you have have read about Billy Ray over the years -- it's sour grapes. You'll be very glad you bought this CD...heck, buy his other CDs as I did a short time ago (after having rediscovered him after his stint on Dancing with the Stars) and I can't get enough! As you'll find, not all his songs are 'country'. He performs a lovely variety of arrangements. I love the sound of his voice..not only vocally, but I can hear his honesty and love for his fans and family through his voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Being a Flatwoods native, I proudly proclaim this a great album., July 31, 2007
This review is from: Bille Ray Cyrus: Home At Last (Audio CD)
Bias from living in the same hometown as Billy Ray, possibly. Bias to enjoying this new album, most likely. But what is most important is the bias I have to the songs that are portrayed in this newest Album. Some may proclaim this may be a comeback album, but would you consider a come back from someone who has sold millions of albums, had a hit primetime tv show "dancing with the stars," to a hit television series "doc," to a hit kids television series "hanna montanna." Billy Ray Cyrus has done it all. He has defied any and all odds that were ever placed against him. He has never once been ashamed of his hometown roots nor ashamed of his country factor. He is the real deal. The REAL McCoy as some may use in refference. We here in his hometown call him an inspiration and a figure to look up to. Others call him a great dad and cool actor/song writer/musician. Regardless, no denying the factor that Billy Ray has the "it factor" persona and the talent to back it up. What a great Role Model. In this new album, Billy Ray showcases his talents even further and provides the proof that he can not only sing but entertain. The songs are great and provide new edge to his previous flares. I wouldn't go on to label Billy Ray as country, especially with this new album. Instead, I'd just say he's got country talent with big city tones. Each song is hand crafted to bellow out inspiration and provide that uplift in emotion that makes you just wanna dance. Maybe that's fitting considering Billy Ray himself is a dance finalist, but the irony is more after the music itself. Dancing isn't the only thing you will do once you've heard this new cd, you will share it with a friend and enjoy it's every tune. If you are a Billy Ray fan, this song isn't just for you, it's EXACTLY for you. If you are not new to Billy Ray's work and want to fill a curious void, how about this CD to start? This man has got it, the looks, the talent and not to mention the entertainment factor. The real deal has proven himself time and time again and now... he's given those doubters another reason to give him another listen. It's without question, Billy Ray has done it again, he's produced great music that will be talked about years to come. Experience it for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Home At Last!, July 26, 2007

This is a really a great album. I saw the video on the Disney channel and had already fallen in love with Ready, Set, Don't go and then heard The Beginning and fell in love with that one and it just kept going. I really hope he can get some air play with radio and video channels this time. His last album, Wanna Be Your Joe was equally good but couldn't get any air or video play in the US. I hope Billy Ray gets the recognition he deserves with this album. I would love to see him at the top of the charts again.

I was curious to see how Billy Ray's comeback would be, and I was pleasantly surprised! This album is enjoyable from start to finish, it's inspired and beautifully written. Even if you weren't a fan of his to begin with, I think this album is worth your money. Every single song is great and they're as catchy as they are beautifully melodic.

The Verdict: It's a MUST BUY! You will NOT be disappointed.

In 1992 when Some gave All came out, I was a fan of nothing but Rock and Roll and was very close minded about all other types of music. I couldn't stand Billy Ray Cyrus and country music.

Flash ahead to 2006,I am now a huge fan of country music since 2003, and Billy Ray is now Starring with his daughter Miley in Hannah Montana, and has a new album out called Wanna Be Your Joe.

I have three daughters who love Hannah Montana and Love Billy Ray Cyrus, and they have passed it on to me, I love watching the show with them and Love his new album Home At Last as well as Wanna Be Your Joe which I bought last year. I have now started buying other Cd's by Billy Ray and plan on having the whole collection soon. I sure missed out on a lot of great music and for those of you who are thinking about getting Home At Last, race out and get it!!! It is worth every penny, love Ready Set Don't Go, The Beginning, Time Flies....I love all the songs!!!!

Who would have thought that at the ages of 10, 7 and 4 my kids would turn me on to someone who was popular when I was 22 and didn't appreciate him!!! Glad to be a fan now and forever!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!, July 27, 2007

This review is from: Bille Ray Cyrus: Home At Last (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Billy Ray since the very beginning. The quality of his music has never let me down---one great CD after another. They are always excellent, as is this new one, Home At Last. He has been under-rated for far too long. He has emotional depth, a great voice, and great material. Billy Ray is the real deal in a musical landscape occupied by way too many phoneys. If you're not already a Billy Ray fan,do yourself a favor and give his new CD a listen. I might add, that anyone who has raised children or has dealt with life as an adult will thoroughly relate to many of the songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ready, set,... don't go leaving this cd on the shelf!, September 30, 2007
This review is from: Bille Ray Cyrus: Home At Last (Audio CD)
OK, I admit I haven't followed my own advice (yet) and bought this cd, but I have downloaded this song from iTunes and thoroughly enjoy it. It relates the reluctance all fathers feel over facing the reality that kids grow up and will leave home to pursue their dreams. But for Cyrus it's more than just that. As his daughter Miley steps off the starting line to the rest of her life the song, in a way, reflects the worry he feels about the pitfalls her chosen profession definitely has. Cyrus knows full well that stardom can chew up and spit out these young stars and the aftermath is not easy to deal with. As he stated in his interview with Glen Beck on CNN when talking about this song and his daughter's career he prays every day that this won't happen to Miley, and Billy, I'm praying with you. With strong Christian and family values present in her life, and his, he still knows that sometimes the desire to go your own way can lead to bad choices that lead to scandal and wrecked careers. Even then, however, those same values will help those that have them bounce back faster. I speak from experience, and Billy does too.

I first heard this song on the Hannah Montana episode "I want you to want me... to go to Florida" in which she runs off to Florida on her own, albeit it with bodyguard Roxy, after Robby Ray (Cyrus) hurts his back and can't go with her to a charity event in which Hannah is supposed to sing with a bitter rival. After forbidding her to go without him she angrily reminds him that he always told her and brother Jackson to pursue their dreams with gusto, ready set go! and also says she thinks she's now ready to make a trip like that without him. Without turning this into a review/synopsis of that episode let me just conclude by saying that in the end, as in real life, he knows deep down she is ready because of what he taught her and how he raised her. Ahhh, but there's that reluctance again a father feels in letting his little girl go, especially into stardom... ready, set, don't go.

After listening to clips of the other songs on this cd I see that this song is in very good company musically as well as vocally. Cyrus has a winner with this album and I'll be placing my order with Amazon soon. Some might say Cyrus is living in his daughter's shadow now but this set proves there's still great music in this man and it's because it comes from his heart and soul.
