At one point in my life, I used to work in a record store and this album was one of our best sellers during Christmas time. First, as the title hints, it is a play on words: (Billie) HOLIDAY FOR LOVERS, meaning all the songs revolve around the theme of romance during the winter holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and more--perhaps it can even be dug out for Valentine's Day! These tunes conjure up dreams of cold, wintry evenings where lovers recline in each others arms, preferably with the lights off and in front of a roaring fire.

On the majority of these songs, Ms. Holiday is backed by a small ensemble group; as if she were seated at the bar in a small nightclub,with a drink in one hand and the microphone in the other; belting out with smokey lyricism, tales of lost love or the hope of lovers reunited. It is a collection Athrodite The Spirit of Romance would have created--if she could sing like Billie.

This album was a very popular piece and one of our best sellers. I highly recommend it and look forward to purchasing it for "...my baby and me."

This is a distillation of the best of Billie Holiday.

The sound has been processed - her voice is distinct from the background players.

Unless you prefer Sarah Vaughan or Ella, this is the CD for you.

I tried this CD on my (black) love interest, and is WORKED! He wants me to put it in my CD-RW!!!

Good music, good lyrics, good rhythm, good sound quality.

I should remind that Billie Holiday and me and my friend are all from Baltimore, Maryland.
