5.0 out of 5 stars You'll be spoiled forever
If you are going to go to the trouble to bake something that requires brown sugar, do yourself a favor (it may actually not be a favor, now that I think of it) and try this sugar instead. It is (naturally) more expensive, but the results will justify the expense. This is a moist, rich sugar with strong molasses flavor. It will spoil you forever.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sugar dried out and hard
Unfortunately, when my sugar arrived each package felt as hard as a brick. I opened one package and had to chip at it to obtain a few crumbs of sugar. This is the first item ordered that I have had a problem with. I emailed Amazon customer service, and they promptly sent a refund. Thank you to Amazon for great customer service.

I am accustomed to spending $3.00+ for this, so if you bake with any regularity, splurge on this package, store it tightly sealed in a cool place (not refrigerated) and enjoy it. In molasses cookies, this is unparalleled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muscovado, September 10, 2006
This review is from: Billington's Natural Dark Brown Molasses Sugar, 16-Ounce Bags (Pack of 10) (Grocery)
Here in America, most of the brown sugar seems like white sugar coated in a brown coloring in comparison to this rich, dark and almost seductive tasting sugar. When I found Muscovado sugar, it brought back tons of childhood memories. Mostly memories of eating a spoonful of sugar as a treat. This sugar is "that" good.

This sugar is milled on the island of Mauritius off the coast of Africa and has the divine flavor only possible from cane growing on volcanic ash.

Muscovado is slightly moist, has a very high molasses content and is delicious in gingerbread, coffee cakes, chocolate cakes and anything with chocolate in it. You can basically use this sugar in any recipe that calls for "dark brown sugar."

5.0 out of 5 stars Give this Molasses Sugar 6 stars !, February 23, 2011

Oh yum!
This sugar is divine and so versatile.

I'm a huge fan of Muscovado sugar and this Molasses sugar is almost identical in flavor and texture to that but I'd say it has a deeper molasses flavor than the Muscovado we have been using.

Natural dark brown sugar adds wonderful flavor to many dishes made with beef such as chili, beef stew and such. It's also truly delightful when added to a glass of milk (hot or cold) - just stir it in as you would with a powdered chocolate milk mix but just use less than you would of those mixes.
Mix it up in a blender until it's foamy and kids LOVE it -
Add a sprinkle of nutmeg or a bit of grated chocolate to the top for a pretty look and an extra layer of flavor.

A tablespoon or two substituted for white sugar in a chocolate cake mix enhances the chocolate flavor.

It is also knock your socks off good in when mixed into heavy cream and whipped -
A dessert all by itself.

Try a spoonful in your coffee instead of white sugar.

Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this often hard to find sugar.
It's the real thing and it's wonderful.

Please keep it stored in an airtight container or it will turn into a brick.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than Domino's, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Billington's Natural Dark Brown Molasses Sugar, 16-Ounce Bags (Pack of 10) (Grocery)
This brown sugar is nothing less than terrific. It has a wonderful flavor and isn't sickeningly sweet like the regular brown sugar brands sold in supermarkets. Once it warms up to room temperature it softens up.

this is the best brown sugar I've consumed in a long time. It reminds me when I was a kid and put the dark brown sugar that was made with molasses on my oatmeal. It definetly reminded me of my chilhood in the good old days. you will not be disappointed in this product, I highly recomend it

This is the best brown sugar anywhere. It is fantastic for baking, sweetening your coffee, and for rubs and barbecue sauces. Tons of flavor with no bitterness.

I well remember when I was a kid and my parents would bring home from the store old fashioned DARK brown sugar. To me it tasted as good or better than any candy, and wasn't like the white sugar with syrup added that passes for brown sugar today.
This Billingtons Natural Dark Brown Molasses Sugar reminds me of the way brown sugar used to be. It is richly flavored and delicious!
If you like genuine dark brown sugar, this is the product.

This dark, dark sugar is worth buying by mail; it concentrates all the best qualities of brown sugar without any of the bitterness of some molasses flavors. You will enjoy it on cereals, in sauces and in dessert baking. It really is GREAT.

This brown sugar is the real deal - cane juice processed up to the point of bown sugar (not highly processed white sugar with a bit of molasses added to resemble brown sugar). The taste, texture and nutritional values do not even compare to the alternatives in the grocery store. If you've never tried real brown sugar, you're missing a delightful treat. We bake with a lot of brown sugar and eat it on oatmeal, cream of wheat and cream of rice. We like the molasses flavor it imparts and the nutritional benefits it offers as well. Molasses is GOOD for you and it tastes good too. Well worth the price. Product arrived quickly and in excellent condition.
