Book Description

USA Today Bestseller!

Burned by love and grieving over his brother's death, sexy billionaire CEO Carter Anderson wants nothing more than to protect his family. So when beautiful and unassuming physical therapist Gwen Radley shows up at the funeral, pregnant with his brother's baby, Carter's certain she wants an interest in the Anderson empire--and both his suspicion and attraction grow when circumstances force Gwen to move into his family's mansion.

An orphan, Gwen's never wanted anything more than a family, and she finds in the Andersons a place she and her baby might belong. When Gwen's therapy expertise leads to long hours of intense, late-night collaboration on a lucrative project, the attraction between her and Carter leads to a night of white-hot passion. But Carter's distrust remains, leading them both to wonder if he will ever embrace his brother's baby--or the love that's blooming between them.

This was simply a pleasure to read. Whilst very light on the sexy content (which based on the storyline is no bad thing) it has a simple yet captivating storyline, loveable frustrating characters and some real touching, intimate, heartfelt moments. Whilst some pregnancy/baby plots air on the far-fetched side, this didn't.

Carter Anderson is going through a pretty rough time; his brother Ben has been killed whilst on tour in Afghanistan, his Dad is struggling to recover from a stroke and he has taken over the running of the family multi-million company. With wealth comes the playboy reputation and Carter doesn't appear to be having any problems in mastering it. The icing on his not-so-very-pleasant-cake comes in the form of Gwen Radley, who arrives at his brother's funeral, quietly wishing to pay her respects to the man who's rehabilitation she assisted in and had a one night stand with before his deployment. A rendezvous which has left Gwen with a permanent piece of Ben who will be entitled to a share in his family's business. But not if Carter gets his way...

The pair of them gave me whiplash but I adored them. Gwen is no wallflower, she hasn't had an easy life but this has made her the tough, independent lady she is and I loved that she didn't take any crap from Carter. And her relationship with his Dad was just heartwarming. Carter is cocky, stubborn and infuriating but you can't help but feel for the guy as much as want to shake some sense into him. Dig deeper and underneath is a thoughtful, kind and misunderstood man. Granted their journey didn't hold any particular surprises, but it was the fact that their chemistry blossomed as opposed to sizzled and amongst the angst was fun which made it such a lovely easy read.

I can't fault it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A quick, fun read... May 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was my first time reading something by Lea Nolan. Granted this is also her first adult romance novel.
You can tell Lea is a seasoned writer from chapter one. The story flows nicely and characters are believable. Though I found this story a tad predictable it was cute and heartfelt none-the-less. It's definitely worth a few hours of your time and I was happy that it didn't drag on and on.
A few things I wasn't thrilled with:
1. Carter was a little over the top with his "can't let go of the past" - and his flip flopping between wanted to trust and not trust was a little annoying.
2. The author used a few words that were jarring. Its as if the editor handed Lea a thesaurus and told her to pick new words and so she took a few obscure ones that didn't really mesh with the writing style of the rest of her book. For instance the word: Imbibe. I'm all for the use of this word but it was used in a sentence in such a jarring way that I became confused. I like words that flow and for some reason, in that context, it didn't.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend this story. For the current price of 99 cents you can't beat it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic May 19, 2014

A fantastic story and I am a new Lea Nolan fan! With a crushing past Carter Anderson trusts no woman! Despite her past Gwen Radley looks for the good in life. When Gwen shows up at Carter's brothers funeral - pregnant - his distrust soars but he can't deny his attraction to Gwen. This is such a fun uplifting story and I hope everyone gives it a read. Hopefully we will also get to read more about some of the secondary characters especially Carter's friend Devon. He needs a HEA story! Put this one on the must read list

3.0 out of 5 stars Liked this book ! May 30, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I gave this book 3 stars because I liked it, but didn't love it. The story kept my interest but at times more details should have been given. Example, ( slight spoiler) She leaves him and then the story resumes weeks later. So much time spent on his trust issues not enough on their relationship. They're apart, they're together, the end. Thank goodness there was an epilogue or I would have rated it 2 1/2 stars. I will reread this again and will try other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars His Billion Dollar Baby June 13, 2014

Finally! A heroine who can stand up for herself, one with brains, beauty and enough charm to survive even this grumpy curmudgeon. I have decided that it's her sense of humor that allows her to put up with him without beaning him over the head - as I would have done the first time he opened his mouth! It's a story worth the wait and entertaining to the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read May 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
After reading the synopsis of this book, I had a pretty good idea what to expect. I thought Gwen would be a broken woman who was devastated by the death of Ben and didn't know how to go on. I assumed Carter would be a hard ass who didn't want anyone to "get rich" off his brother's death. While part of that is true, the story is so much more than that. Gwen had no idea who Ben's family was and she has no desire to capitalize financially off the fact she is pregnant with his baby.
Carter had been burned in the past and knew better than to trust any woman. He believed Gwen was only after the family money/business and he was going to make sure she gets nothing. What he didn't expect was to start seeing who Gwen really was and all that she was willing to sacrifice for his family.
It is a good story about a strong woman who knows what she wants in life and doesn't depend on anyone for her happiness or her livelihood. Carter had truly met his match when she walked into his life. She made him open his eyes and realize that not everyone is a schemer out to take his money. When she walks out of his life after some horrible accusations by him, he is forced to come to terms with how he treats people.
I truly enjoyed the story and was very happy with the ending. The story was very well written and flowed nicely. I am looking forward to the next book which I hope will be about Carter's best friend, Devon. I would really like to see him get his HEA.
