Robert H. Hacker is a strategist, financial consultant, author, professor and blogger. He manages GH Capital Partners in Miami, FL, a boutique firm that focuses on integrating strategy and finance.
He is the Chief Financial Officer of One Laptop per Child Association and an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Florida International University. He taught a course in social entrepreneurship in January 2011 at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He has spoken at many universities including HBS, Sloan and IESE. He is the author of Billion Dollar Company: An entrepreneur's guide to business models for high growth companies.
For 35 years he worked in the private sector principally in Asia and Latin America. He built a billion dollar publicly traded company in Indonesia and prior to that provided strategy consulting for ten years to Fortune 500 companies in Japan. He began his career as a lending officer with Chase Manhattan Bank. His blog, Sophisticated Finance, discusses strategy, finance and technology.
My interest in technology is what now gets me up in the morning; my ability to develop strategies is how I differentiate everything I do; my knowledge of finance is how I earn much of my living.
Speaking engagements to university students and paid workshops can be in either English or Spanish.

Whether you are thinking about starting a company or already running a company, this book is an absolute must-read. Applying the frameworks presented in this book will provide you with an intelligent view of your business - from what your TRUE costs are to what your MOST profitable revenue generating operations are. The methodology Hacker presents is based on years of working with companies who were a bit hazy on what the mechanics of their business really were. His methods will give a business owner (novice or expert) a crystal clear view of their business that is insightful and more importantly, USEFUL for growing to be a billion dollar company. If only this book were available and used by my MBA finance professors, I might not have struggled so much with understanding why comparing and analyzing the financial metrics of a company are so imperative for growth and success. It is truly a brilliant step-by-step guide to entrepreneurial finance, sales, and most importantly: strategy.

La verdad es que yo tome una clase con el Profesor Hacker y el nos mando a comprar el libro. Al principio pensé que sería como todo los libros que nos hacen comprar, aburrido, imposible de leer y al final siempre sentís que nunca vas a usarlo. ¡Pero NO! Este libro te ayuda a entender cuáles son las cosas que un empresario (si es tu primer negocio con mas razón) necesita saber antes de irse a la aventura de abrir un negocio. El libro habla de la importancia de: entender o saber cuál va a ser tus clientes, tener una hipótesis de lo que planeas hacer, realizar un análisis de la industria, planear un "business model" (que va a ser tu model para el éxito) y finalmente mirar a tu "Financial Model" (como sostenerte financieramente). También muestra los niveles de desarrollo que tiene un negocio (Proof of concept, commercialization, scaling, growth and professionalization).Básicamente, el libro te demuestra la importancia de pensar, desarrollar y luego implementar tu idea. También te da unas ayuditas de cómo lograr que un negocio chico ($10 millones) pase a ser un negocio exitoso a lo grande ($30 millones o mas). ¿Suena lindo no? Pues manos a la obra, compren el libro no se van a arrepentir (es fácil de leer, no es complicado y muy útil).

This book is well written in a clear, understandable language. If you want to succeed in your business you should take advantage of a strategy that is described by the author. R. Hacker does an excellent job of organizing the key elements there is a fair amount of real world examples that help the reader understand the concepts.
