Leanne Banks writes as no one else can., May 13, 2009
This review is from: Billionaire Extraordinaire (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Emma Weatherfield has worked for Megalos-De Luca Enterprises "MD" in Las Vegas for over six years now. She has been the executive assistant for two of the top managers, Alex Megalos and Max De Luca. Now the chairman of the board has hired an outside firm to conduct a reorganization of the company and Emma has been reassigned to be the executive assistant to Mr. Medici, the man who would decide the fate of the employees.
Damien Medici has waited his entire life for a chance to bring down the De Luca name. The grandfather of Max De Luca had cheated the Medici family, causing the entire family to scatter. Some sank into depression so deeply they committed suicide and the children were orphaned. Damien had been one of the children put into foster homes. His hunger for revenge gave him the necessary discipline to study hard, work hard, and become a self-made billionaire. Only now is Damien finding members of his lost family, such as his two brothers. Now the time is at hand for Damien to ruin the De Luca family and Emma is the key. Emma knows vital information that would give Damien the ammunition he searches for. He knows that Emma is reporting to her previous managers every move he makes. So the first thing to do is convince her to change her loyalty over to him, even if it means seducing her.
Emma does not like spying on Damien for her former managers. On one hand, she owes Alex and Max for her college education and her future at MD. On the other hand, Damien is now her boss (even if only temporarily) and he believes he is doing what is best for the company. She should be keeping his secrets and doing all she can to assist him. Emma had prejudged Damien and he is now scrambling her preconceptions of him. Then there is the problem of the attraction growing between them. How long will she be able to keep her emotional distance from him? And does she really want to?
***** A delightful romance set within the neon lights of Las Vegas. Emma not only has the worries about who she should be loyal to, but also has a mother with an addiction to gambling. I found myself genuinely caring and admiring Emma. She is a terrific example of a normal, loyal, hard worker of today's businesses. (Well, the ones with scruples anyway.)
Damien is almost too good to be true. He has done what I believe every orphan wants to achieve, to grow up smart and get rich. I only met one brother in this story, Rafe, and found him to be just as intriguing as Damien. I sincerely hope Rafe gets his own story told. Leanne Banks writes like no other can! *****

Powerful Attraction, June 15, 2009
This review is from: Billionaire Extraordinaire (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Bestselling author, Leanne Banks, has written a wonderful story about Damien Medici, a handsome billionaire bent on revenge, and Emma Weatherfield, his lovely new secretary, who gets in the way of his plans. Emma needs to get close to Damien to discover what he's plotting. Unfortunately, Emma doesn't anticipate his powerful attraction, the way Damien sweeps her off her feet or this delicious heart-stopping romance that may very well leave both of them breathless.

It was just so-so for me but I'm not giving up, May 25, 2009
This review is from: Billionaire Extraordinaire (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Right off the bat we are introduced to Emma and I just couldn't get a feel for her. Was she a strong willed person? Shy and sensitive? Decisive and the ultimate assistant? I've no clue and I'm still rather unsure. All I know is that she is attracted to Damien. Doesn't like that fact. Oh and she sucks as a spy.
Damien is then introduced and I get the impression that he is on a mission which if you read the blurb would be revenge. Okay cool. I can dig it. Now how is it going to play out? Is he going to sweep her off her feet and in a fit of orgasmic delight is she going to reveal all of the secrets Damien is looking for? Does he even know what he's looking for? That answer would be no by the way. He's just looking for some dirt.
I'm sorry to say that I just didn't get the chemistry between Emma and Damien. The story was just so-so and I was pretty much left wanting for something.
Oh well. I think Harlequin books are always worth the chance. They are quick reads and pretty inexpensive. I'm still going to give Leanne another shot. She's got another Desire that sounds pretty interesting that I want to read, BLACKMAILED INTO A FAKE ENGAGEMENT.
