Please note that this book is at least the third in a series. I didn't read the first two but I can only assume it would have helped this book.


Miranda Lee has a really good writing style and I generally enjoy her books, so I bought this book assuming it couldn't be that bad.

Megan and James were married but right after she'd miscarried her baby she finds out that her husband had deliberately gotten her pregnant and married her all so he could have children, and he didn't really love his wife at all.

Personally this book is full of things that aren't my cup of tea when it comes to these kinds of books.

By page 56 I was already annoyed with the hero, having learned through his own thoughts that he didn't love her and felt guilty when he told her all the time that he did. That all he wanted was children from her and even though she'd miscarried he wanted to try to get more as soon as possible. He also made comparisons between her and his ex-wife in bed, sometimes during intercourse that were not in his new wife's favor.

Needless to say I was ready to throw this book away but I still pushed through figuring there would be hope to make this a really good book.

Instead the entire middle of the book read like a highly edited erotica. The last quarter of the book I had no emotional attachments to any of the characters. Quite frankly I really didn't care if they stayed apart or got back together because even though I was 'told' they were tormented, they really didn't strike me as being that upset or involved in their own problems.

So while I wound up not hating the book, I didn't particularly like it either.

It's possible that reading the other two would have made this book better for me. Despite the fact that I didn't like this one very much I am still considering reading the first two, if slightly more hesitantly.

Megan had just miscarried and overheard her husband's best friends saying James didn't love her and only married her for children. James even told her he loved her everyday. He knew he didn't love her. Finally Megan changes her looks and finally James comes to love her. I wanted to vomit all over the book. Not worth buying!

I like a strong alpha--as long as the alpha truly loves the heroine. James Logan doesn't love his heroine; she is only a vehicle to his becoming a father. He doesn't even take notice of her in any meaningful way until after a friend has talked her into a makeover. James says thoughtless things such as how Megan was so sexy "now" (implying that she hadn't been that attractive to him before). Later, he tells her that he really doesn't like the manner in which they have been intimate (implying that perhaps he'd been merely tolerant of their lovemaking in the past). I found him thoroughly unlikable. The story also has a strange tangent regarding the heroine's painting that is never fully developed, unfortunately; it is the only characteristic that makes Megan even remotely interesting. The only thing that keeps this book from receiving a single star is that the writing style is good and the intimate scenes were appropriately steamy. Otherwise, this book is a pass.

This was not the typical Harlequin Romance. James and Meagan are married. He is the rich billionaire and she is the Plain Jane, she gets pregnant and they marry. Meagn has a miscarriage and overhears James' friends say that he doesn't love her, and that he got her pregnant intentionally. On top of the miscarriage Meagan now has to deal with the fact that her husband, who has told her often that he loves her really does not. Meagan goes through a bought of depression but agrees to a 2nd honeymoon at which point she decides to come out of her shy shell and become more adventurous both in her appearance and in the bedroom. James hopes the 2nd honeymoon will result in another pregnancy but Meagan has secretely gone on the pill. Of course James finds out and more trouble and a break up ensues. The story then continues until all is right in the world.

I like that the book deals with realistic issues and characteristics of married couples. Neither was perfect and both participated in deceipt and lies. James is sometimes brutaly honest but honest non the less. With his well dry,(Meagan gone) James sees himself for who he is and acknowledges the error of his ways.

The author was open with the characters feelings so there wasn't a lot of guessing about who felt what. In the end James softens up and Meagan toughens up for an equal trade. The ending in my opinion was rushed and the reconciliation a bit too easy but other than that it was a decent book.
