He'd wanted her for six months. And the opportunity had finally arrived to make Celia Taylor his--at least temporarily. Billionaire businessman Evan Reese knew she was desperate to get him to sign with Maddox Communications. Perhaps he would. But first Celia needed to accompany him to beautiful Catalina for a family wedding. There he would wine, dine and seduce the stunning ad executive...for he knew she desired him, as well. Yet would she still want him when Evan told her she'd be playing the role of his fake fiancée?

5.0 out of 5 stars Billionaire's Contract Engagement, March 26, 2010
This review is from: Billionaire's Contract Engagement (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Maddox Communications advertising executive Celia Taylor has the chance to sign one of the biggest names of her career. Starting over from a painful move from New York, Celia is very much aware of herself as a woman and strives to do nothing that would draw attention to herself or her behavior. Signing Evan Reese will show the advertising world that she is worthy of an account as big as Evan's. When Evan invites Celia to Catalina Island on business, she has trepidations, but goes anyway. Finding out why he wants her there makes her see red, yet Celia isn't willing to give up on landing his account no matter how much she wants to cut and run.

Evan doesn't understand why Celia Taylor is so worried about her reputation and what others think of her. He has wanted to seduce her for months and his brother's wedding is the perfect opportunity. Her reluctance worries him, but he is confident enough in his capabilities as a lover to keep her happy. When the press catches wind of their affair, they are brutal and finally Evan understands. But will he be able to handle the stark truth of what Celia tried to keep hidden?

Evan is seductive, good-looking, and dreamy. He is used to having any woman he wants, when he wants her. And he wants Celia Taylor and her hesitation only makes him want her more. Celia is guarded at best, but she is unable to let go of her attraction to Evan and for that alone I found her to be very brave. Her confidence has been shattered by previous circumstances, however, she is willing to take a chance on Evan. Good, good, stuff!

Billionaire's Contract Engagement is superb. Maya Banks has woven an intricate tale of how lies can affect a relationship. Evan and Celia's connection to each other is piping hot and instantaneous. Passion is prevalent in Billionaire's Contract Engagement and I couldn't have asked for anything more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice romance, steamy with the right amount of sweetness, March 11, 2011
This review is from: Billionaire's Contract Engagement (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
I started reading this for 2 reasons: because

1) the blurb sounded interesting and

2) because of the cheesy cover and the ridiculous title. Thought it would be good for a laugh.

But Billionaire's Contract Engagement is surprisingly good: the plot is not overly simplified, the characters are interesting with some history, and there is an array of wonderful supporting characters (LOVED the heroine's family, especially her brothers they were such sweeties!).

The romance between the hero and heroine is steamy with the right amount of sweetness. Billionaire's Contract Engagement is a nice contemporary romance, perfect for any Nora Roberts fan, if only the cover and title wouldn't scare off so many readers who avoid trashy romance novels. *sighs* This novel was executed very nicely, give it a chance!

I recommend Billionaire's Contract Engagement to contemporary romance lovers, Nora Roberts fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very pleasantly surprised by this engaging, fun escape, November 26, 2010

Hooked (Midwest, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Billionaire's Contract Engagement (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
I like Maya Banks and I've read her "Sweet" series, "Colters' Woman" etc. This is definitely not like her erotic writing: No one is tied to anything; "anal plugs" are not mentioned; and most happily, a bad guy doesn't kidnap the heroine. Not even once.

Plot summary: Ad exec Celia needs to land a big sportswear company account. Company owner Evan only has time to listen to her ad pitch at his brother's weekend wedding. Evan tricks Celia into posing as his fiancée so he can one-up his brother. Despite her anger, Celia and Evan hook up. Celia worries she'll get a reputation for sleeping her way to the top. Evan doesn't understand her concern.

Pros: This was a fun, well-written and well-paced book. I liked both the hero and heroine. It was nice to read a conflict based on character. There's a lot of situational conflict as well, but the characters' flaws -- her worry over what people will think, his selfishness -- was primary. Reading about explosive sex, expensive hotels, private jets, and limos was really enjoyable escapism. For me, this also shows a different side of Maya Banks's writing that I liked a lot.

Cons: It's not terribly plausible, but I could easily suspend my disbelief because it was a fun read. The book did need better copy editing. There are some repeat phrases used within a couple paragraphs. There are two scenes in which the POV switched without any delineation, which was a little confusing. And once Evan was called Ethan (p. 140), but that's really nitpicky. It was a good book . Recommended, 4 stars.
