Book Description

October 31, 2006

Samantha Jellicoe is enjoying her new legitimate career and her romance with billionaire Richard Addison. Of course, this doesn't mean she's gotten over the urge to steal, but she's been able to fight it off––most of the time. Then she spies someone she never thought she'd see again ––her father, Martin Jellicoe. Sam thought Martin had died in prison years before, but now that he's back, she knows he's up to no good. Her worst fears come true when a new painting that Rick purchased goes missing. Sam knows her father is behind it, but with the police focused on her checkered past, this won't be easy to prove. Between keeping her father's return a secret, searching for the missing art, and saving their reputations, Rick and Samantha's relationship will be tested like never before.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Fans of contemporary romantic capers will eat up the third tale of retired cat burglar Samantha Jellicoe and her British billionaire boyfriend, Rick Addison (following Don't Look Down), who continue to steam up the windows of Rick's posh, Upper East Side New York City townhouse, where Sam has recently begun living. Between sexcapades, the odd couple find themselves in a sticky situation. While Rick wins a prized Hogarth painting at a Sotheby's auction, Samantha spies her father, Martin, "the grand master Jedi of cat burglars"—who's meant to have been dead for three years—lurking in the shadows. Not quite coincidentally, the Hogarth disappears from Rick's townhouse shortly thereafter. When Sam finally catches up with Martin, he has a proposition for her: a piece of the biggest heist he's ever pulled. The only problem is that Martin's working for Interpol, the heist is a setup, and the crew's muscle, Veittsreig, won't take no for an answer. Protective, straight-arrow Rick, unable to keep her out of trouble, decides to tag along for the crime, getting an intimate look at Sam's impressive extralegal skills. Much heavy-breathing sex and suspense follows, making this a winning continuation of a funny, frisky series. (Nov.)

From Booklist

*Starred Review* In the charming romp Flirting with Danger (2005), Enoch introduced art-thief Samantha Jellicoe and Rick Addison, her British multibillionaire lover, who also starred in Don't Look Down (2005). Now the plucky, "almost reformed" Samantha is back for a third caper, as is the still-long-suffering Rick. Even though she has decided to retire from her life as a thief, Samantha gets almost uncontrollable urges to break into posh places and take expensive things. Missing the adrenaline rush of criminal activity, she hangs onto her legitimate life with her fingernails. But now, Samantha has a much larger problem than her self-control--her supposedly dead father (and fellow thief) has shown up very much alive at a Sotheby's auction. Enoch hasn't lost any of her impetus. The plot is fast and fun, and her characters are superb. Like The Thin Man's Nick and Nora, Rick and Samantha have a sizzling chemistry, and their witty repartee adds panache to the already entertaining story. This oh-so-witty romance works as a stand-alone title, but libraries will want all three Samantha Jellicoe novels. Shelley Mosley

More About the Author

A lifelong lover of books, Suzanne Enoch has been writing them since she learned to read. She is the author of two well-received Avon Regencies, The Black Duke's Prize and Angel's Devil, and five Avon Romances: Lady Rogue, Stolen Kisses, By Love Undone, Taming Rafe and Reforming a Rake. Born and raised in Southern California, Suzanne lives a few scant miles from Disneyland with her collection of Star Wars action figures and a Cairn terrier named Katie (after the heroine of her first Regency). She's still looking for her own hero, and hopes he will be handsome, titled, and just a little wicked. Meanwhile, she's currently at work inventing him in her next historical romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Fun!, November 7, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Billionaires Prefer Blondes (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the 3rd book in a series.
In this book Sam and Rick are in New York. Sam is still itching for the excitement that her former life as a cat burgalar provided. Rick is still making multi million dollar deals.
Rick receives an invite to a Sotheby's auction. Sam thinks it'll be a kick to be there when she is not robbing the place. She notices a familiar figure interested in the same painting Rick buys, her father. Only problem is her father died 3 years ago in prison. She passes him a note asking him to meet her later. While Sam is waiting for her father, who never shows, someone steals that painting from Rick and Sams house. All fingers point to Sam and the trouble starts there...
This is another wonderful story with Sam and Rick. I like how Rick and Sam work together. They are the ultimate odd couple, but it works. They have so much chemistry. They are an excellent team. This book has witty humor, mystery, action, sex and romance. It has everything. A fun read. I can't wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sam & Rick are still HOT!, November 21, 2006
This review is from: Billionaires Prefer Blondes (Mass Market Paperback)
Samantha Jellicoe is content, if not happy in her new career of security consulting. While she'd much rather be breaking into houses rather than protecting them, Sam is beginning to realize that she'll do just about anything to stay with Rick Addison. Though it has only been five months since they met, Sam can't imagine life without him. When Sam's dead father, renowned thief Martin Jellicoe comes back from the dead, Sam knows that it can't be good.

Rick Addison will do whatever it takes to hold onto Sam. Even let her practice breaking into their house. When they travel to New York where Rick is trying to buy a hotel, the last thing that Rick expects is to be pulled back into the shadowy world in which he first found Sam.

This book is so well written that you won't wan to put it down until the end. The relationship between Rick and Sam is extremely entertaining. Rick is determined to keep Sam honest while Sam is determined to stay honest, but not too honest. When you bring in Martin Jellicoe, Stoney, plus a bunch of thieves, Sam and Rick have their work cut out for them. Humorous at times, emotional at times, Suzanne Enoch really has a winner in this third installment of the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars May be running out of steam, June 8, 2007
By
This review is from: Billionaires Prefer Blondes (Mass Market Paperback)
Enoch's contemporary tales of the billionaire playboy and his cat burglar girlfriend were a wonderful premise and were sustained well through the first two books. While still showing that she uses the language far better and with richer variety in a contemporary than in her historical novels, she is beginning to stretch the premise of Samantha's ability to function in both worlds. How many people, both legal and criminal, are going to be allowed to know her secret before it becomes totally unbelievable? The worlds portrayed are enticing, and far out of most readers' reach; her knowledge of the art world is respectable, if very exaggerated. But, this series, like most American television, shows the distressing tendency not to know when to tie up the ends and bring a story to a close before you need to "jump the shark." I sense a revving of the motorcycle in the background. What's next otherwise? Saving the Crown Jewels?
