Exceptional album,
This review is from: Billions of Phonographs (Audio CD)
This is one of those albums that falls far below the radar screen of most listeners of contemporary music. Nonetheless, I would say that it is exceptional, and sounds quite similar to some of the best music done within the Elephant 6 collective. I do not, however, believe that the Instruments are in this collective. The few people that have heard "Billions of Phonographs" have mentioned that it has an Eastern European sound, and I would agree. Klezmer music also comes to mind. One of the very best things about this band, though, is that despite their folksy sound their sensibilities were developed in punk bands throughout the 1990s. Indeed, they seem to be looking forward, as most Elephant 6 type bands have done throughout the past few years. "Billions of Phonographs" stands as a remarkable album, one of the very best of 2002. I hope that more people will know about this band in 2003.
