3.0 out of 5 stars Cooking made Simple
Bill's cooking book is very simply written and it doesn't contain any difficult language used sometimes by famous chef. The one disapointing thing is that the book is mostly seafood and if you are not a fan you just bought the book that might not offer much to you. Overall, great book to learn from.

I just bought this book and spent the weekend making a selection the recipes - the tomato soup made by roasting tomatoes, garlic etc and whizzing it up in a blender (no water, no stock...), crispy skinned salmon with a sesame soy glaze and lime slice (as opposed to the lemon slice) as desert. Bill's recipes seem to achieve the same great results with at least half the effort. Compare his recipe for cheesecake with that in the Joy of Cooking and you will see what I mean. His version involves no baking at all and I can't wait to try it out. When I made the base for the lime slices in the food processor while the tomatoes roasted for the soup I was struck several times by a feeling that everything was easier than I was expecting. I will definately buy Bill's other books when I am through with this one. The photography and layout are inspiring and accurate of the results, which I always think is the measure of a good recipe book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Every meal is a hit!, February 9, 2005

This review is from: Bill's Food (Paperback)
This cookbook ranks high on my favorites list, thanks to its simple and easy flavors and recipes. My only gripe is that it's hard to find some of the standard Aussie ingredients here in the United States, like laksa paste or passionfruit nectar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good!, June 1, 2006

Flavorful recipes and dishy chef come together in bill's food. The recipes are simple, turn out surprisingly well and are quite forgiving. The two main strengths of the content are that the book has lots of contemporary ideas (the yogurt pannacotta, for example) and recipes with multiple possibilities (corn cakes work as appetizer / brunch entree). The layout and pictures are attractive, instructions are simple, very much in keeping with the theme of the book: slow down and enjoy your food :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Fabulous, July 26, 2007
This review is from: bills food (Paperback)
This was my first book from Bill Granger and i confess that i was suspicious and woundering what it would be like because my only experience with Bill was a recipe i made from a jamaican coconut bread. Now I just have to say that i loooooove this book and certanly i will buy the others as soon as possible. Great recipes and very easy to make.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, August 20, 2005
This review is from: Bill's Food (Paperback)
Bill's recipes have simple instructions & require few ingredients. Minimal fuss & great results! We use a little less butter than Bill' recipes ask for, however the food turns out just as well. For the (rare) special ingredients required, try your local whole foods or speciality gorcer. It's not difficult to source it. Better still substitute it with some thing equivalent. My favourite recipes are the banana bread with chocolate chips & breakfast scones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sydney on a Plate, February 25, 2011
This review is from: bills food (Paperback)
bills food is currently viewing again on Foxtel (Sydney) and it has brought me back to Bill Granger's books. I have the full set of his books, but they've been set side for some time in favour of more recent cookbook purchases.

bills food is laid out in chapters for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea & dinner (with a "library" of Bill's favourite cookbooks to round it out). It's easy to find something simple and tasty to make, with most of the lunches also suitable for a light mid week dinner. Somehow the book and recipes feel very "Sydney" to me !

It's a beautiful book - the dishes are photographed in close up - although the white plates and background of most of the shots doesn't do the food justice in my opinion. I particularly love the square shape of Bill's earlier books - they stand out from the bookshelf and look good together.

Already this week I've made the very simple and delicious chicken salad with grapefruit, and it will become a regular in my home.

I look forward to rediscovering Bill's cookbooks and give bills food four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars BILL is my new culinary idol, September 2, 2010

i learned about him recently from his 2 shows on the THE COOKING CHANNEL -

my palate soul mate!! : he loves the vietnamese/thai flavor palette as i do (i'm filipina so not a stretch - fish sauce, yes!) .. he favors seafood, including squid (about which i'm fanatic) .. he's not a fan of goat's milk cheese either (i'd been feeling alone there) .. he's a proponent of easy simple-to-make, clean-clear, bright-tasting, healthy dishes.

i hope BILL'S HOLIDAY cookbook becomes available at a reasonable price soon.

Heaps of great recipes, really easy to follow and not needing too many ingredients that you wouldn't ordinarily have in the cupboard. Will buy another Bill Granger book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple & delicious, February 3, 2010

Whether I'm looking for inspiration, or a quick delicious meal, I turn to this book. The photographs are lovely and the recipes are straightforward (beginning cooks will want to prepare carefully and you'll need scales.) I love the chocolate banana bread and the lemon chicken with herbed lentil salad is both healthy and highly appealing. A few years ago I ate two meals at two different bill's locations in one day: amazing breakfast at Darlinghurst and damn fine dinner at Surry Hills. This cookbook helps bring a little Sydney sunshine into my kitchen!
