This review is from: Bills of Material (Hardcover)
Dave Garwood does an excellent job of explaining the what, how and why of B.O.M.'s in a practical and easy to read format. He uses real world situations and terminology that are relevant to today's growing industries and fast changing technology. The book is divided into three sections. The first few chapter's sets up the need (importance) of having accurate and flexible product structure development for B.O.M.'s. Too many company executives dismiss the importance of maintaining accurate B.O.M.'s, but this book has helped me to form an approach to show upper management how we can gain a competitive edge by investing more resources to effectively control the B.O.M. process. The second section of the book details what needs to be done to change your B.O.M. process to meet the needs of your various departments and how they use the product structure. This section features the "nuts and bolts" of creating and maintaining an effective B.O.M. process. It does this by showing the pros and cons of the various processes and how to establish the proper requirements for engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, inventory control, accounting and customer service. The third section shows how to implement the necessary changes into your organization and details what to look for in software and hardware requirements to run your PDM software. This is a great book for an Engineering or Manufacturing Manager who has just taken on the responsibility of maintaining the B.O.M. process. |
