Disappointed,
By Diana F. Von Behren "reneofc" (Kenner, LA USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Billy Blanks' Tae Bo 2004: Capture the Power: POWER (DVD)
Let me preface this review by saying that I am a big fan of Tae Bo and its creator Billy Blanks and have been a big fan since the series first came out over 10 years ago. I have all 12 of the advanced series workouts that I have played to the point that when I hear certain music in a non-exercise situation, my body goes on automatic pilot, responding to the music by wanting to perform some associated Tae-bo move. Needless to say, I was thrilled to refresh my workout with a brand new series of DVDs which I saw being hawked on one of the home shopping networks.
I was disappointed. Instead of providing a more progressive workout which built on the work I had already done with the original 12 series, the Get Ripped series and Taebo Total, this workout takes you back to a beginner's level. The package I purchased includes two hand-held weighted balls -- a good idea as they do help to tighten up the muscles when performing most of the upperbody routines. However, the overall workout leaves much to be desired. The music is slow and monotonous, and the workout simply doesn't last long enough. Billy commendably spends much time warming up and cooling off, but little time actually working out. Sadly, I performed this tape one time only, tried out the accompanying DVDS which focus on the Tae Bo attributes of Foundation, Strength, and Energy and reluctantly went back to doing Tae Bo Total. My review of the Power video stands for the entire series -- if you are someone who has used the Tae Bo videos in the past and were enjoying the advanced level tapes, don't expect this series to contunue your Tae Bo development. If you have already purchased this like myself, use the balls with your other workouts -- they aid tremendously in tightening the muscles to get the most out of your punches and Billy's isometric work. I awarded the series three stars only because it would make an okay beginner's workout. I have seen Billy's Boot Camp workout advertisized on television and from what I have seen, this series may provide the advanced workout that I came to enjoy with the other Tae Bo tapes. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am getting this workout on dvd because our vhs was used so much that it is all worn out! My family came across this workout quite by accident.. it had been discarded by someone who had moved out of the residence. It is the first workout that got myself and my son excited about working out and getting into shape. At forty-two years old, I found myself in the best shape of my life (and I was not in bad shape prior to this workout). It is extremely motivational, without being over the top (so fast one cannot keep up). My son learned some new moves and became stronger, more flexible and more positive. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get into shape and needs some inspiration to do so. Thank you Billy Blanks.. you have made a difference in our lives!
