5.0 out of 5 stars Hey, are you falling over?
I've owned three other Billy Blanks workouts in the past, and while I had fun doing them, I had trouble balancing. I finally bought this DVD so I could go through and learn the moves slowly and get the footing right. I'm really glad I did! 2.0 out of 5 stars beginner tae bo
Good sound and picture quality. Needs to spend more time on form. I have watched the beginning several times and am not sure what the difference is between a #1 and #2 punch. The pace is decent but I feel little benifit due to lack of shared knowlage of proper postureS / form.

I've owned three other Billy Blanks workouts in the past, and while I had fun doing them, I had trouble balancing. I finally bought this DVD so I could go through and learn the moves slowly and get the footing right. I'm really glad I did! Even though you'll only need to use the Foundation segment once to get the moves down, it's definitely worth owning. I could tell the difference the very next time I worked out with one of my other tae bo DVDs. And the Energy section is a good workout that you can do over and over. I totally recommend this compilation for tae bo beginners (or people like me who were still falling all over the living room).

If you are a beginner, you want Billy Blanks' Tae-Bo - Instructional Workout, Basic, Advanced, 8-Minute Workout (1999)

As for this (Foundation/Energy) its great if you've been doing Tae Bo for a while. Honestly, this is a great set!!! Just be sure you start out with the right DVDs.

This foundation workout is very good at teaching the basics of Tae Bo. I highly recommend it for anyone who is just getting started.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well..., July 18, 2005
This review is from: Billy Blanks - Tae Bo: Foundation / Energy (DVD)
This is my first Tae Bo Billy Blanks workout. Billy is energetic and he leads a very large class. The first part of this DVD: "Foundation" is a very good instructional workout for basic Tae Bo---Billy explains the moves and shows them to you. The second part: Energy ties the moves you just learned in "Foundation" together in a faster (but not overwhelmingly fast) workout that will get you sweating some.
One of my pet peeves is that I do not like a crowded set on my exercise DVDs. The large class does, however, portray a wide variety of people that is encouraging in the sense that it isn't just the fittest of the fittest working out. This large class, however, counts out loud continuously and this, I find to be very annoying after the first 2 times of working out to it. Another annoying thing is that Billy will be in the middle of exercising and then he stops abruptly and begins moving among the crowded set. This breaks my "flow" as I am first learning the moves. Then Billy proceeds to NOT do even amounts of moves per sides---another pet peeve of mine! And last, but not least, when Billy tells you to work your right side, he works his right side too and this causes you to work/move the opposite side as him throughout the workout.( he does the same thing on the left side).
It's a good start to learning Tae Bo if you can get past my "pet peeves", but I've decided that I'll learn cardio kickboxing elsewhere!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for starting Tae Bo, May 24, 2005
This review is from: Billy Blanks - Tae Bo: Foundation / Energy (DVD)
This is a must have if you want to learn the moves for all his other Tae Bo DVDS. There are 2 workouts. The first explains the moves, the other puts them to use. I felt great after doing the workout.

I only gave it 4 starts instead of five since he can be a little confusing. He does not let you mirror him (like in a Kathy Smith workout). But he is so motivating, that it is well worth getting past that and doing the workout.

I love Tae Bo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Tae Bo Beginner!, August 14, 2008

If you've never done Tae Bo, this would be a GREAT place to start. Begin with Foundation where Billy Blanks takes his time teaching you all the moves and the proper way to do them. I had to learn what I could from the "Instructional" tape from the late 90's and it pales in comparison to Foundations. After you master the moves, then you go on to Energy, a 45 minute workout. It's intense enough for someone who isn't used to Tae Bo or is recently getting themselves off the couch. This work out is NOT for someone who is buff and looking for something to do on a cold, winter day. It will not challenge you. I've only been doing Tae Bo for about 9-10 mos and typically do the original Basic workout and add on the 8 minute workout to the end to give it a boost (the advanced is still too much for me). I thought I'd try Foundations/Energy, but Energy was still a bit too instructional. Don't get me wrong, you still get a work out and will break a sweat, but it isn't as intense a work out as I'm used to with the Basic + 8 minute workout together. Again, this is PERFECT for the person new to Tae Bo OR someone who is trying to become more active.

I've always like Billy Blanks' tae bo, and this one in particular because it gives you the foundation to tae bo without overwhelming you. Though, you get a GREAT workout too.

I had one of the other Tae Bo tapes but gave it away. This one is just the foundation moves and is easier for my old bones to do.
