5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar CD, October 21, 2003
This review is from: Billy Currington (Audio CD)
If there is any justice in today's country music market (and that is up for debate), Billy Currington's debut CD (Billy Currington) deserves a heck of a lot of success. There are a select few CD's that can be played over and over again without getting old. This is one of them. A better mix of ballads and toe tappers would be hard to find. The fist single, "Walk A Little Straighter Daddy" is moving up the charts. With the right mix of emotion and social consciousness, this song moves the heart without becoming sappy. "I Got a Feeling" captures the perspective of a man in love to the letter. He is on the verge of declaring his love, and feels certain the emotion is mutual but as is often the case with men, is hesitant to put his love into words. "That's Just Me" is a pleasure to listen to. A fun song with practical statements that are hard to disagree with. "Off My Rocker" playfully uncovers the truth about who is really in charge in a relationship, and aptly ends in an apology. "Where The Girls Are" and "Growin'Up Down There" are two of the well-placed lively tunes sure to get you moving. The haunting "Time With You," spotlights Currington's vocal ability while deftly incorporating an occasional steel guitar. An emotionally driven love song "When She Gets Close to Me" puts into words what men sometimes feel but rarely verbalize. Billy has the complete package: an admirable voice, writing talent and he is easy on the eyes. Will this be enough to take him far? I for one hope so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing CD, April 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Billy Currington (Audio CD)
I read all the other reviews about how all the songs would be a hit single and all that stuff and was thinking "yeah right". But I loved "Walk a little Straighter" and "I Got a Feelin'" so decided to give it a try. I just bought it and am wondering why I didn't listen and buy it sooner. I'm now listening to it for the 10th time and haven't skiped a single song which is unusual. By this time I usually know which songs I like better than the other, but just when I think I have them, another song surprises me and I just like all the songs. To say they all would be #1 is stretching it a little, but I would bet money they would all be at least #20 and probably #10. Let's go through the songs.

1. I got a feelin'
This is a superb upbeat song that talks about just wanting to "say those 3 little words" and just enjoying the feeling.

2. That's Just Me
This slows the album down reflecting about what life's like today and what you really need in life

3. Hangin' Around
Talks about a lover that he can't forget about and wishes she would come back. "I wish you were like your memory and keep hangin' around"

4. Off My Rocker
This gets the CD moving again with an upbeat song about him saying he was gonna' be the boss and drink again and later looking back and saying he must have been "off my rocker"

5. Walk a Little Straighter
What can I say about this one? One of my favorite songs ever. Great ballade about having a father addicted to alchohall. He says how he still loves him but wishes he would "walk a little straighter".

6. Where the girls are
Great song about just hangin' out and being young. Talking about going to "where the girls are" and getting "a name and a number, a kiss and a hug".

7. Time with you
Halts right down to a nice slow ballade about just wanting to spend time with that special someone

8. Growin' Up Down There
Really about being young and growing up. How life was when he was young. Very upbeat, just makes you want to tap your feet.

9. Next Time
A slow ballade about loving someone so much that "next time I might not let go". Wanting to hold someone all the time.

10. Ain't What it Used to Be
Good finale talking about the small town he has loved and how it's changed and "I used to know everyone by name but they all moved away". About how time has changed the style of life.

After that there's nothing better than listening to it all over again. Great mix of fast, upbeat songs and slow, thoughtful songs. Best CD I've bought in a long time. Get it today and you'll wonder why you waited this long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music has meaning again. . ., November 22, 2003

This review is from: Billy Currington (Audio CD)
I have been converted: I am a fan that crossed over to the dark side of classic rock and artists like Counting Crows and LIVE. . .but Billy has brought me back. He breaths new life into country music with a "new-old" sound and lyrics worth listening to. He brings a sincerity to his music that has been missing from country lately. . .but perhaps the best thing I can really say is that, though I am still a starving college student, I was glad to part with my lunch money and support this very promising young artist :)

When I heard Billy's duet w/ Shania (on "Havin' a Party", I had to listen to his new CD-definitely a "gotta have"! Only, on his next CD- I hope to hear more of those slow, low oh-so sultry & sexty tones, even "drawls/"growls"-mmm, mmm! Rich & rare voice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Billy, January 16, 2005
This review is from: Billy Currington (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Billy Currington ever since the first time I heard his single "Walk a Little Straighter." I had to go buy his CD right after that, and it was even better than I imagined. I have seen him in concert twice, and I have gotten to meet him. He is such a gentleman, and he was even nicer in person. This CD is awesome all the way through. Every song tugs at your heart in it's own way. Buy this CD and you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A country fan's dream, December 26, 2003
This review is from: Billy Currington (Audio CD)
Billy has one of the strongest country voices in the sea of new artists. This is the sound and music that country fans need to bring back some traditional sounds with modern song material.

1. "I Got a Feeling" - This song is such an upbeat positive song. If this doesn't get your toe tapping nothing will. Nothing short of putting a smile on your face and an encouraging song in your mind, this is the best way to start the album.
2. "That's Just Me" - The thing I like about this song is how it makes you reminisce about a time gone by. It illustrates the old vs the new way of life. (one memorable line "I'll buy the gas but you outta get the air for free). The first time I heard it, I had to stop and think of just how different our lives are.
3. "Hangin' Around" - Many of us have had that love that just won't leave our memory alone. No matter what you do that memory is just hanging around every where we turn. Currington puts his heart out there in this love-gone wrong son. The fiddle and steel guitar are very prominent in this song that just adds a superb touch.
4. "Off my Rocker" - Immediately I thought that this song would make a great line dance song. I was picturing this song booming in a club with a dance floor full of people. It also brings back that classic country struggle between a man and wife over the power of drinking a little too much.
5. "Walk a Little Straighter" - What can you say about the debut single? It has some incredible imagery of what this boy growing up faced with a father that was addicted to alcohol. Sure to be a classic and one that people relate to.
6. "Where the Girls Are" - I reflected on my youthful days at the local hang out. This song just makes me want to roll the windows down on a warm summer evening and crank it as loud as the stereo can handle.
7. "Time With You" - This is one powerful love ballad. The song tells of the struggles of life moving fast but the desire to spend time with a significant other is tugging on the other end. What wouldn't want a man to tell her that he just wants to spend time with her. "When She Gets Close to Me" - I must say that when I heard this song for the first time my heart just melted. The up-tempo song describes the feelings that a man has for the love of his life. It is just so powerful to think of this love. Also a rare gem of a song where the message of love is positive.
8. "Grownin' Up Down There" - Amazing to me is how kids can grow up in all parts of the country and have such similar experiences even if they are thousands of miles apart. I love the youthful up beat nature of this song. Put those headphones on and let your mind drift back to childhood memories.
9. "Next Time" - This puts you in the driver's seat of that new love feeling. You just want to be around the person all the time and hold them forever.
10. "Ain't What it Used to Be" - I can appreciate this song because I grew up in one of those small towns that seemed to be the last to get any of the "latest". This song talks about that time and how things have changed because of technology and longing for those old days.

This is a solid CD that any true country fan must have for his/her collection. I can't stop playing it. You won't be disappointed with this purchase.

I had no idea what an awesome artist he is! I love the whole cd, but I have to admit...I bought it mainly because I love the song Walk a Little Straighter. I had to know who sang it...so I got onto Amazon and when I started listening to some of the other songs on this cd - I had to have it. He's a very talented artist! I'm sooo glad I decided to check him out!

I've never bought an album and loved every song on it - until now. This is a great album and I can't wait 'til Billy's next album comes out. My fave song is "Time With You" - a great ballad about spending time with the one you love - I'm a sucker for good ballads. "Next Time" is another great song...they're all great...I highly recommend this album!!!

This review is from: Billy Currington (Audio CD)
This CD was surprisingly good. Actually, I bought this CD not liking the first single, Walk a Little Straighter, too much. But, I listened to a few other song previews on this CD and realized that Billy Currington has true talent and decided to buy his CD. The songs on this CD, even Walk a Little Straighter, show such depth and his voice carries out the emotion trying to be conveyed. Growin' Up Down There gives a fun, great view of life growing up in a small town while Time With You is a powerful song about love that captures the idea of love in a hectic world so wonderfully. Next Time and Hangin Around are also favorites of mine. But, in reality, all the songs on this CD are amazing and any true music fan should appreciate the music on this CD.
