5.0 out of 5 stars "I was dancing when I was twelve...."
Apart from being both very funny and very touching, "Billy Elliot" was a movie with an excellent 70's and 80's soundtrack. I am only 15 years old, so I wanted to get this CD to listen to songs that came before my time. And I can only say that this CD is excellent. The soundtrack includes fun and bouncy songs by T-Rex ("Get It On", "Ride a White...

2.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disapointing
Nice music from the best film ever made. You relive some nice parts of the movie. It is a shame that the most pivotal music from the film ( Billie's dancingscene in the gym for his dad and the music when Billy dances down the streets with his balletshoes around his neck) and the beautiful pianomusic all by Steven Warbeck is NOT on the CD. A real bummer!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "I was dancing when I was twelve....", September 12, 2001
This review is from: Billy Elliot (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
Apart from being both very funny and very touching, "Billy Elliot" was a movie with an excellent 70's and 80's soundtrack. I am only 15 years old, so I wanted to get this CD to listen to songs that came before my time. And I can only say that this CD is excellent. The soundtrack includes fun and bouncy songs by T-Rex ("Get It On", "Ride a White Swan"), some really cool rock songs ("London Calling"), a few really inspirational songs ("I Believe"), and some dialogue tracts from the movie. I have memorized the dialogue tracts by heart. They are great for practicing your British accent, and you can easily remember just where they were in the movie.

It's really amazing how well you can visualize the scenes of the movie just by listening to the soundtrack. My favorite songs are "Cosmic Dancer" (in the introduction), "Town Called Malice" (when Billy dances in the streets), "London Calling" (the cops vs. the mine strikers), "I Love to Boogie" (Billy's private dance lessons), "Shout to the Top", and "I Believe". You can imagine Bily singing "Cosmic Dancer", "I Believe", and "Shout to the Top", as the lyrics of those songs tell just how Billy feels about himself throughout the film.

Bottom Line: Whether you loved the movie or just liked it (it's impossible to hate it), you'll love the soundtrack.

P.S. "I Believe" is NOT a sappy song. If you think it is, you haven't seen the movie. If you don't know what movie I'm talking about, you can go watch Barney.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack for a Wonderful Film, January 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Billy Elliot (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
Billy Elliot was no doubt one of the greatest movies this past year; with wonderful actors and great music. While listening to this soundtrack, you can really feel what made Billy want to dance, especially The Jam's "A Town Called Malice" and T.Rex's "I Like to Boogie". The theme songs of the movie, I Believe and Cosmic Dancer, could have been written exclusivly for Billy. The dialouge is also a wonderful treat. I do wish they had included the score, for the little piano music that Billy constantly plays and the song that he uses at the audition are great pieces of music; not to mention Swan Lake, an always timeless classic. Great CD! Makes you want to dance!.

What a marvelous work. The CD is just as good as the movie itself. You can remember the scenes while listening to the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Billy Elliot Soundtrack, November 6, 2000
This review is from: Billy Elliot (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
Great cd!! All the songs are taken from the movie & you can recall them as you listen. A cd that evokes the same emotions as this fantastic film. A great cd that makes you feel good & want to dance, but most of all, makes you feel! Movie sound-byte clips were great as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent CD; but still..., August 16, 2001
This review is from: Billy Elliot (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
I absolutely loved the film 'Billy Elliot,' and I was drawn to the wonderful compilation of music that it contained...so I bought the CD, and even though I love the CD, I do have a couple of problems with it:

1. There are five unnecessary (but ok) tracks of edited dialogue. 2. The T-Rex song 'Cosmic Dancer' appears on the CD twice; while it's a great song, it doesn't need two tracks of it. 3. This CD doesn't include and of the beautiful piano concertos heard in the film (and if you're wondering what those are titled-and I know many of you are-just look for the complete list of all music appearing in the movie in the credits of the film).

But since there are still 11 great songs on the CD, I still love it immensely, and I still highly recommend it! Enjoy!

-Taylor

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic sound track for a fantastic film, October 31, 2000

Like the film Billy Elliot the sound track is just as good. With songs from T-Rex the Jam and Stephen Gately there is as much variation as you could possibly want. The main song being from Stephen Gately is a perfect choice becasuse if you listen to the words it could of been written specially for the boy Billy Elliot or any one of us. The sound track is perfect if you want to relive songs from your youth or just to remember the film by. Every fan of the film must own this soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars England's Finest, July 18, 2001
This review is from: Billy Elliot (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
Billy Elliot is the inspirational tale of a young kid who escapes the troubles that surround him by taking up ballet in England circa 1984. Director Stephen Daldry expertly uses music to add depth to certain scenes. The cd contains much of the music from the film. Many of the songs are from one of England's biggest acts from the 70's, glam rockers T. Rex. Their "Cosmic Dancer" is played over the opening credits as Billy bounces on a trampoline. The song sets the perfect tone for the film. He dances along with his ballet teacher to the band's fun and silly "Ride A White Swan" and Billy runs in anger to the propulsive strains of "Children Of The Revolution". Striking workers are chased by policemen to The Clash's "London Calling" while Billy dances maniacally to The Jam's "Town Without Malice" after his family gets into an argument with his ballet teacher. The cd intersperses clips of dialogue from the film between songs. The soundtrack provides a good look into the film as well as some English bands like The Jam, The Style Council and T. Rex who were big stars in their native country, but never really hit it big in the US.

i absolutely loved "billy elliot" so i felt it was necessary for me to buy the cd just for the movie. yet, the cd stands very strongly on its own. its a great collection of all different types of music and if you like the movie, you'll like the cd. the best song is "town called malice" and the dialogues are great for practicing your british accent.
