Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream is a lotion-style shave cream (ie. it doesn't foam when applied to your skin). According to the packaging, it's made up of millions of "micro sillicone beads". It does have a slightly gritty feel to it (though nothing at all uncomfortable), which makes the "sillicone bead" description sound reasonable.

Applying Hydroplane is pretty simple: just rub it into your skin after you've thoroughly moistened it with water, then shave normally. Hydroplane is persistent, so it won't dry up like some shaving lubricants, and it doesn't require any additional water after it's been applied. It'll easily last through your entire shave.

Lubrication, irritation protection, and nick protection are all excellent. Hydroplane washes out of your blade very easily, too, with one of the lowest gunk factors I've experienced in a shaving lubricant. As shaving lubricants go, I can find no fault with this one.

Hydroplane is a premium product in every sense of the word. A 236ml (8 ounce) bottle retails for $20 from the Billy Jealousy website (at this writing). The bottle's a good size, and it'll last a while (you only need a small amount for each shave), but it's still very expensive.

Overall, Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream may be the best shaving lubricant I've ever used (and I've used dozens of them over the years). It's expensive, but it's worth the price, in my opinion. If you're looking for a very close, comfortable shave with no irritation, Hydroplane is very much worth trying out. I am impressed.

This stuff is amazing. Without a doubt, the smoothest shave I have ever had. Don't be put off by the price. A little of this stuff goes a long way. I use one tube of it every 10 to 11 months. However, DO NOT PURCHASE the Hot Towel lotion that is made to go along with it. It actually will actually make the shave cream less effective. The hydroplane shave is fine all on its own. Buy this stuff now!

I've been using Hydroplane (along with the Hot Towel pre-shave treatment and Shaved Ice after shave) for just under a year now, and couldn't be happier! After reading a review of the Hot Towel in a national magazine (I believe it was Stuff), I decided to switch from a competing product, and give this brand a shot...

Hydroplane is great stuff! I can't remember the last time I had such a close shave with ZERO irritation. My facial hair grows in several different directions, and no matter what products I've tried before, I've always been faced with red face, ingrown hairs, and other various problems. Not any more!

You can actually feel the difference the silicone beads provide, as the shave is close, smooth, and comfortable.

Beyond that, the rest of the Billy Jealousy products have been superior to anything I've used in the past. I highly recommend the Hot Towel, which really is like getting that hot towel shave from a barber, along with the Shaved Ice, with it's nice, cool clean feeling afterwards.

Bought this shaving cream four days ago. I was kind of skeptical, and wondered if it really would be better than a can of Aveeno or Gillette shaving cream. Well, it really is good stuff -- it has made shaving much easier on my skin, and I will be using it from now on.
Also, this was about as much as I was willing to pay for shaving cream - I saw some other brands available at high end stores (selling for as much as $65, and I'm not spending that much on shaving cream), and they were basically the same as some "all-natural" products I had tried from the health food store for arount $7.00.
Billy Jealousy is really a great product.

I am so happy I decided to try this product - Billy Jealousy Hydroplane gives me the closest shave without cuts or razor burn. I have very thick facial hair and I have tried numerous shaving products (Art of shaving, Nivea, gillette, etc.) and BJH is the one for me.

Here are some tricks for a better shave:
1. Take a hot shower - Shave last this way your pores open up and the hair softens a bit
2. Mix the shaving cream (about the size of a quarter) with water in your hands
3. Apply to wet skin
4. Begin to shave - Take your time shaving. Shaving too fast will give you razor burn.
5. Make sure you always maintain the skin lubricated with the shaving cream by re-applying if you need to.

I tried this product before and thought it was intailly just okay because I will still getting the "red neck" look. I was getting tired of e-shave products comming cracked or dried out so I tried this proudct again. Now here is what I learned to give a great shave with this product:

1. Make sure you used very warm water to wet your face and splash it on a few times to soften the beard. Or shave after getting out of the shower.

2. Spread it evenly the amount they recommend is pretty close
3. Keep a spary bottle filled with water near by.
4. Start shaving

I found the product was drying out and I needed to remoisten it; hence the spray bottle.
I have an extremly thick fast grown beard and now this product glides easily across my face with little redness. I liked the fact when you put it on you can still see your skin so easier to see what your doing. What every you have left washes off easily.
If you want to try something new or go for a change I highly recommend this product but save your money and do not buy the hot towel preshave. It adds nothing to your shave.

I initially tried this product with a Mach-3 Turbo razor. Given the reviews and the price, the results were disappointing. I still experienced too much irritation on my neck to shave every day. Later, I tried it with a Panasonic wet-dry electric shaver and this seems like the perfect lube for that application. It doesn't make the electric shave any closer, but there is no irritation to my face or neck, and no build-up on the blades and foil.

This is a great shave lotion. It lubricates well, spreads thinly and evenly, and has a great scent. You get a close, comfortable shave, and you smell great afterward. That's about as good as it gets for a shaving product.

It is a bit expensive, compared to other products, so it's a bit of an indulgence. That also means it's a great gift.

It works pretty well and gives me a close shave. It definitely beats regular shaving cream! However last Christmas I was given some L'Occitane shaving oil, which I used under regular shaving cream and I got a smoother shave than with this product alone.

I'm a Hydroplane fan. No more nicks and cuts. I get good razor glide and it doesn't dry out my face.
