From AudioFile

Hamilton's saga remains continually surprising and interesting. The setting is WWII England; the story centers around Billy London, a bigamist who has two wives and four daughters. Narrator Sidaway masterfully presents each of a vast range of characters distinctly and realistically. She also renders the considerable text, which sometimes seems like a maze, in an easy to follow manner. However, her greatest skill is her ability to keep potentially melodramatic situations and conversations even and believable, especially when the women jointly take on the man who has brutalized them for so long. This compelling and tragic but still joyous, story is an excellent choice for those who prefer a good long story, as well as those who want an inside view of the toll that war takes on civilians. S.G.B. An AUDIOFILE Earphones Award Winner. (c) AudioFile, Portland, Maine
