5.0 out of 5 stars Best new artist since Jill Scott
Billy Miles is a breath of fresh air in an othwise somewhat boring year in music. Her sound is completely her own- soothing yet complex. It is an incredibly good album especially for a debut artist. If you like Sade, Erykah Badu, Nelly Furtado or Jill Scott BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Billy Miles
I learned about Billy Miles from a friend of mine after our conversation about another similar & original singer named Lina. Both women took a chance and successfully mixed the old school swing sound with hip hop/neo soul beats. Billie Miles is a women with a different point of view to show us. Her voice is like a combination of Erykah Badu, Billie Holiday, Nelly Furtado and Estero laid down over some very smooth beats. Sister girl talks a lot of game in a voice that dares you to disagree. I first heard her on my local jazz station that plays Neo-soul,House and Rare Grooves. If this is the kind of music that you enjoy, check out Ms Miles. The first song, "Your Love Is A Lie", is the strongest track but the others are definitely on point. So get yourself a glass of merlot, sit back, and hear what she's saying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MODERN DAY BILLIE HOLLIDAY!!!, August 1, 2005
This review is from: Billy Miles (Audio CD)
Billy Miles self-titled debut is a truly delightful find for me while stumbling into my local record/book store--Thank God for listening stations. Shoppers probably thought I was demented gyrating to the very sultry and sophisticated tunes of this outstanding release--"What'chall lookin' at?". I seriously digress. Not only is this sista stunningly beautiful, but she has a vocal style that can be likened to that of Eartha Kitt, Billie Holliday and others of her ilk: Lina, Roisin Murphy and "early" Erykah Badu come to mind. From beginning to end Miss Miles offers you "miles and miles" of purring, sexy, laid-back vocals (sniggle: couldn't resist that one). Not profoundly deep in her songwriting, she still makes a statement with lyrics addressing so-called friends, no good men, runaways and of course, L-O-V-E. Not only do BM's vocals sizzle, but her music as well, combining the old (blues, jazz and classical) with the new (hip/trip-hop, pop, rock) while still sounding remarkably fresh! Too early to tell how successful, or well-known Billy Miles will become, but given the atrocious state of today's R&B, she'll probably go unnoticed by the masses. A++++

I learned about Billy Miles from a friend of mine after our conversation about another similar & original singer named Lina. Both women took a chance and successfully mixed the old school swing sound with hip hop/neo soul beats. Billy Miles reminds me of a mixture of Erykah Badu, Macy Gray and Lina - her voice is an original and it took me a few listens to really get into & enjoy the music.

The tracks I really enjoy are: WHO AM I (she sang in a low key less animated tone which really works beautifully on this track); SUNSHINE, INSIDE - features trippy almost acid jazz beats; YOUR LOVE'S A LIE - smoky track and ANOTHER TASTE..REBEL

I would recommend this disc to music fans with eclectic tastes because it is another interesting mix of old school/new school flavor that mixes neo-soul/jazz and hip hop.

**Music fans who are giving Amy Winehouse's new disc a chance may also enjoy this one - both are original vocalists who reached back in time for musical inspiration which has created a new sound for today's music landscape.

I loved this Billy Miles. If you really listen to her interveiw, you will know that she is speeking on those many life experieces of not just her self but alot of others out there including men that have been dogged,My suggestion to any one that thinks for one minute that they have not ever needed to get those feelings said, then lay back and let this lady do the talking for you. Some times you have to tap the one you love on the shoulder just to remind them that you are a strong lady and special lady or man that deserves to be heard and love.Expression by no means is ever negative but can only help to improve the more lasting relationships.Love this Lady and we need more of the truth in this some times Fake world of La,La, land.We love you Miss Billy Miles. Totally sincere,Rick Matty

4.0 out of 5 stars billy miles review, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Billy Miles (Audio CD)
I never heard of this artist, until I heard it on public radio interview flipping thru dials at night on the way to work. I fell in love with this album. It's different. I hate top 40 thats played 40 times a day. I like rock/metal/Rap/hip hop and this was something I had to have. It's not defined by any of the above. IT's a mix of hip hop,r+b,and with some sounds of what I think is the 1930's or 1940's. Kinda grooving music. Interesting. Some people may not like the sound of her voice, but I do as long as you don't over play it for weeks on end.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the real heart female artist BILLY MILES, March 13, 2005
This review is from: Billy Miles (Audio CD)
Every one out there in this business has a little comparison to some artist and all that means is that they loved those artist.Just like in the days of Motown, they all shared a familiar sound.Billy Miles has flavor of loved female artist and yet has her own complete style and can deliver a passonate kiss with a knock out blow at the same time. That in its self is unique. Her song [YOUR LOVES A LIE] will give those living in a fantasy a wake up call. That song called [Disrespected]will have you check your self.I love this lady and tell all to get a real taste of her music and deep lyrics.Buy this C.D. Sincerely,Clark

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprise Sound/Man Hater's melody, July 5, 2005

I thought Ms. Billy Miles had an intriguing 'surprise sound'. I enjoyed the album, for what it is. . . not very deep, but fun to sing along with. I was bothered by her 'man hating' lyrics. I'd rather hear more positive wording, but her unique voice makes the songs enjoyable. While playing, it's a brief conversation piece at parties. I think once Billy gets more in touch with her "Inner-Artist". . . her albums will become more profound.
