Editorial Reviews

Billy and Rufus live together and share everything, except Billy's secret - he's gay. Rufus just isn't ready to deal with it: the only thing he hates more than a "faggot" is a "pushy woman." But when the cousin of Rufus' girlfriend drops by unexpectedly, it looks like Billy's secret might be out of the bag. Billy Turner's Secret is a hip, urban comedy, an inadvertent look at the connection between misogyny and homophobia, and among the first African-American films to deal with these subjects.

This short film is beautiful and well directed. All the negative reviews left about this film or it's editing seems to be neglecting the fact that this was the 80's or at least the early 90's AND independently made(not mainstream). I love how the plot developed and how Rufus seemingly shifted from homophobe to ally in the matter of a few ass-kickings. There are certainly opportunities for improvement in all area of the film, but I consider it very rEVOLutionary for it's time, content & message.

Gritty, witty and nuanced ... somehow the hints of hand held NYU Film School camera work combined with the black and white film help punch home the grit and the wit.

The acting quality is up to NYU Film School alums doing professional work; definitely better than a grad school film project.

And it made me laugh right away... short but fun. Give it at least five minutes (it took me about 30 seconds to make up my mind) and you'll definitely want to finish it! LOL... trust me it will not be the worst 20 minutes of your life ;)

More details are needed to make this movie more meaningful. Perhaps the shortness of this movie hurt the plot of the movie more that the writer knew. Too much is left to the imagination.

Listen it's the 80's and this is one of the few black gay films around even if it is a short but it was cute and well somewhat funny. Less just say you can pass some time away.

The acting isn't bad, but there is no plot or character development. The writing relies too much on cliches and stereotypes. It's an okay first effort.

Almost like a series you would catch on Youtube. Not bad for students aspiring to become movie directors, camera wo/men writers, etc…

This is an short gay video class D version about a man of color trying to deal with his gayness or something like that. There is a very very brief scene of him in bed with another man with covers pulled up in which more time could have been spent to further develope the character and give some needed sexual arousal time for. It gives an unbelievable acceptance of a gay black men in the black communitee.

The storyline seemed like it would be good, but the two male leads just suck at acting. What am I saying the two male leads can't act or the directer can't direct or something, I made it through about 15 minutes before I said my time is worth more than watching this dry, unemotional of a train wreck movie. Two thumbs down, don't waste your time
