I use the Bilsom Leightning L3 Earmuff on our Kubota ZD-21 diesel grass mower. The earmuff is the best of several brands that I have used over the past twenty years, and is better than previous Bilsom models that I used. The quality is in the sound protection provided with an NRR of 31. I can easily detect the superior sound protection over the previous NRR 29 Bilsom that this model replaces. High sound protection is supremely important for anyone who is exposed to high noise levels for extended times.

I agree that the earmuff is slightly fragile. That may be the price of an acceptable weight and it is a secondary consideration for my use since I can avoid physical maltreatment. For my use, the earmuff has never failed me. Sound protection is not very costly. I've been using earmuffs for many years and know of no superior earmuff at any price.

I have been a USAF F-15C and F-16C aircraft mechanic for over 13 years and have tried scores of different "ear muff" type hearing protection and these are by far the most comfortable as well as effective muffs I have used. Anyone that has ever been up close to a jet engine in afterburner will probably tell you it is the loudest thing you will ever hear (and the last thing you'll ever hear if you don't use hearing protection). These are very effective in protecting my ears in my work environment as well when I take my guns to the range for some target practice.

The construction is adequate for the price and the comfort and functionality are second to none. I don't know what the naysayers are expecting from this protect at this price point, but from my years of experience these are without question the best I've used.

Bilsom sells an ultra-fragile product and refuses to support it when it breaks. I bought the Bilsom Leightening L3 hearing protector in November 2004. In September 2005, I dropped it on a hard floor. The over-the-head piece is connected to the two ear covers with a piece of 1/4" plastic rod on each side of each ear cover. One of the plastic rods broke, making the L3 unusable. I called Bilsom customer support at 800-430-5490, and was informed that there is no warranty coverage on the L3 and that Bilsom would not supply me with a replacement part. I would have to order the part from a distributor. They gave me the number of the Fastenal Company in the 507 area code. I'm going to try to repair the L3 with a drop of super glue and a screw through the center of the plastic rod, rather than incurring expenses that will probably exceed the cost of the hearing protector. This is a nice hearing protector when new, but used in an environment other than a room with deep pile carpeting, it definitely is going to break.

I bought these Bilsom Leightning L3 Earmuffs about 2-3 years ago to use in my home wood shop.I have some very noisy tools, planer,jointer,router,table saw-all major noise makers. These muffs filter out all the noise and stay snug on my head no matter what I'm doing. You want ear muffs to fit tight or they don't do the job of protecting your hearing. When I started shooting my pistols at a indoor target range here in town the ear muffs work just as well there too. Now my wife has bought the same pair I have after using mine. I have not had any problems with breaking??? They still look and work like they did 2-3 years ago.

My hat size is Large, I found this earmuff small. Even when fully extened, the headband still press top of my head hard, or my earlobes crushed by the ear cushions.
Decent build quality, good sound insulation, too bad it doesn't fit.

I bought these earphones to use when mowing and trimming the lawn or mulching yard debris. They reduce the noise level well enough for me!

Just received my Earmuffs today from the seller Shoplet, super fast shipping. They are not the Bilsom Brand as listed on the product details but rather the regular Howard Leightning L3. Not a bid deal for me. I have rented these earmuffs multiple times at my local range and found them to be superior to the Pro Ears brand. Quality seems great, I'm sure with care these will last me years.

These work great for noise cancellation, but so do many other muffs. I bought these to get a high comfort level which I did not get on long term wearing. After about an hour I need a break from the pressure. Just for the record I wear a size 7 1/8 hat.

Love these earmufs! I use them almost everyday as an adult student who needs quiet to study. I take them with me to the library etc. to drown out the noise of chatter and clicking keyboards. I also gave them as a gift to someone who complained of the loud noise of the ride-on lawn mower. These worked like a charm! So much so that a second pair was requested. Every place I go people ask me where they can buy these too b/c they are so envious. I tried every kind of earmuff and ear plug before I found these and they are truly the best.

I use these at the gun range. They do an excellent job at keeping the noise to a minimum. They are also very comfortable to wear for an extended amount of time.
