Most entertaining hockey book EVER!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: In the Bin: Reckless & Rude Stories Form the Penalty Boxes of the NHL (Hardcover)
I bought this book after reading it's reviews, and I am extremely glad I did. It's not only full of insights into the game, it's players, and officials, but is one of the funniest collection of stories I have read in a long time. And that includes supposed "humor" books, too. I was a big hockey fan before reading the book, but I am an even bigger one now. The only downside is having read this book in the summer it's made it even more difficult to wait for the season to begin. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Sin Bin was a blast!,

This review is from: In the Bin: Reckless & Rude Stories Form the Penalty Boxes of the NHL (Hardcover)
I am a HUGE hockey fan and I love anything that will get me closer to the game, besides being on the ice. When I heard of this book, I was so excited. I've always wondered what's going on in the Sin Bin, and what's being said! If you've ever been to an NHL hockey game and sat behind the penelty box this book is for you! I couldn't put this book down when I got it. The author is a brilliant writer and is very entertaining. I loved the different stories of him in the NHL. My favorite story was when he was in Colorado and had to site in that goalkeeper box on wheels and it started rolling backwards. Film at eleven! I can remember reading this in school and cracking up laughing, while it was dead quiet and people looking at me. I couldn't help it though. It was a great book! Buy it if your a hockey fan!

What can I say about this book. At first, I thought it was a good book. As I read on, I began to accept the fact that it was a very good book. By the time I finished, I had come to the conclusion that In the Bin is one of the greatest books to cover any sport, not just hockey. Just a truly amazing look at a few different angles of the game that we don't get to see very often.Lloyd Freeberg's writing style has more moves than a Mario Lemieux breakaway. I was constantly being amuzed at the different stories he told, he has a great sence of humor and timing. Though the accompaning pictures are in black & white, they are superb. The variety of things Freeberg writes about caught me off gaurd. I thought that the book would focus only on penalty box incidents dealing primarily with goons from around the league. I was pleasantly suprised when I began reading about mascots, superstars, zambonis, goal judges, fans, referees and even arenas. The diversity was not only entertaining, but enlightening as well. With stories of all types constructed with skill similar to that of Paul Kariya's stick handling, In the Bin delivers as much excitement as an overtime playoff goal. I loved every word of this book and I wouldn't hesitate to read another book by Freeberg, nor will I hesitate to suggest this book to anyone.

I wasn't even a hockey fan but....,

My boyfriend bought this book for himself and after hearing him laugh to the point of tears every time he opened it up, I decided to have a look. Freeberg painted a picture of hockey I had never really thought existed: a picture of real people and their lives and antics and mess ups and fall downs.... I am really glad I picked it up, I kinda have a different view of the game and it's participants now. Highly reccomended!

A Must-Read For Hockey Fans,
By A Customer
This review is from: In the Bin: Reckless & Rude Stories Form the Penalty Boxes of the NHL (Hardcover)
I got this book because I heard about it and I'm so glad that I did. More then just talking about the penalty box, Lloyd points out exactly what the common fan often wonders about as to what is really going on behind the scenes. I like that he also admits that he has made errors. In fact, his chapter about the "phantom goal" was most hilarious. If you curse out officials as I often do, read this and see how totally confused they get at times. You still may curse out those referees, but at least you'll know a lot more about where they are coming from. A great read.

Really entertaining a must read!,

I really enjoyed this book. Lloyd gives you an idea of what it's like to be part of the action in the NHL and he does it in a very light and fun way. He can really tell a story. The book's filled with facts, but it's not hard to read. I would recommend this book to anyone. Not only would someone who has played the game for many years enjoy this book, but it is also for the fan that has never stepped out onto the ice. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I enjoyed it so much; I plan to buy a number of these for presents during the holiday season.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to sit in the "sin bin" with the players?? Have you ever wondered what they say to each other and to the officials?? This book gets you into the sin bin without threatening your life. Lloyd Freeberg is an off-ice official. He has spent time in the penalty box with the likes of Bob Probert, Kris Draper and even Wayne Gretzky. There is even a chapter on some weird superstitions of hockey players. Read about his most embarrassing moment as an official, and his most dangerous times in the penalty box. For Red Wing fans- there's a chapter on Kris Draper and one on Bob Probert (former Wing). Everything from smuggling pucks to kicking the bucket where the pucks are kept to throwing chairs to insults is in this book--from first hand experience. I kept wanting to share everything I read with my family, and the book kept me laughing and wanting more. If your one of those fans who loves the fights and/or wonders what is said in the penalty boxes, this book is for you.

Lloyd hit the nail right on the head,

Mr. Freeberg gives us his insight to the game as I would like to hear it. Obviously a true fan and historian of the game, Lloyd points out exactly what the common fan often wonders as to what goes on behind the scenes. His well documented stories of the penalty box and scrums previous are both funny and riveting. I hope that the players that were mentioned in the book got a chance to read it, and in turn show their appreciation to the author for bringing to the forefront the zany antics that go on behind the closed door.

I really liked this book. It was an easy read (I read it in one sitting) but very funny. I laughed out loud numerous times and actually went back and read some sections over again.

This was the most enjoyable book I've read in a long time, and that includes non-hockey books, too. The stories were not only entertaining, but educational about the sport of hockey and its players. It was also great to read about players whose names I knew, but knew little about them since they aren't the "stars". I think the best part of the book was the story about the referees...I have a whole new respect for the job they do on the ice. I had so much fun reading this book, I'm planning on reading it again in September to get ready for the start of the season! Please let me know if the author has written any other books.
