Bing Crosby, unforgettable songbirds and the golden days of radio !!!,

The "golden age of radio" brought high quality entertainment into countless American homes; and this CD presents an excellent collection of Bing Crosby's duets with some of the greatest female singers of the 20th century.
The CD boasts quite a few romantic ballads including Bing and Judy Garland singing "When You Wore A Tulip;" "I Don't Know Why" (sung by Bing and Lauren Bacall); and even Bing and The Andrews Sisters performing "I Can Dream, Can't I?" The songs were all originally recorded between the years 1947 and 1954 on radio shows Bing did at that time. The quality of the sound is excellent. These recordings were some of the first to be made using a new type of machinery based on German technology. The remastering process is excellent; digital transfers, editing and restoration were done by Lenny Garcia and Brian Warner. Also look for the John Scott Trotter Orchestra, The Rhythmaires and Ken Carpenter who was a well known radio announcer at the time. The "Dixieland Boys" do a great job with their musical arrangement on "That's A Plenty" which is performed by Bing and Connee Boswell. Terrific! You also get the song credits and the liner notes include a brief essay about the radio business during the "golden age of radio." I recommend this CD for Bing Crosby fans and fans of classic pop vocals including duets. Fans of Judy Garland and Peggy Lee will delight that Bing does two duets with each songbird. It's a special plus to hear Bing sing with Lauren Bacall as she is not widely known for her singing talents but rather for her acting abilities. This is also a great CD for fans of that era when radio was one of the greatest forms of entertainment in the traditional American household. It should bring back many fond memories for those of us who had the chance to enjoy this great entertainment when it actually transpired. SMILE |
