Bingo Barge Murder is the debut novel for Jessie Chandler and the first in the Shay O'Hanlon mystery series. It's another entry in the genre of slapstick stories that feature a bumbling amateur and her friends.

Shay O'Hanlon runs a coffee shop called The Rabbit Hole where her most difficult job is making a proper latte until the police want to talk to her best friend Coop about the murder of his boss. Instead of working with a police detective who Shay finds very attractive, she decides to try and solve the situation herself. The consequences result in kidnappings, more murders and tangling with Mafia hit men. The entire plot revolves around a shipment of very valuable nuts that Shay manages to steal and that several other parties want. Along the way Shay acquires a large, but loveable dog and manages to put more of her friends in danger. Even taking the beautiful Detective Bordeaux into her confidence doesn't insure that Shay will be able to rescue her friends or escape injury herself.

Readers who enjoy farcical stories with humorous characters will probably like this book. It has the stereotypical people - the hapless friend who can't do anything right (Coop), the feisty older woman who doesn't know when to be quiet (Eddy) and the unrepentant gossip (Kate). The villains also fit into typical role models. None of the characters are developed beyond their roles, so they tend to be rather flat. The story moves along at a clip however and has enough ridiculous situations to be amusing.

True lovers of mysteries will probably want to avoid this book. There really isn't a mystery in it except to wonder how many inept maneuvers characters can make in one story.

In other words - lots of fun!

Shay O'Hanlon is co-owner of the Minneapolis, Minnesota coffee shop `The Rabbit Hole'. Quiet? not exactly. The owner of a sleazy gambling boat on the Mississippi "The Bingo Barge" is murdered, murdered by Shay's lifelong BFF Coop, or maybe not. There is also the Mafia looking for valuable cargo gone missing. Of course the police are interested. Shay and lovely Detective Bordeaux seem to have certain chemistry. Want more? Shay's elderly landlady is held for ransom by the mob. They want the cargo or else! Enjoy the Slapstick Scooby Doo Mystery!

Gut-busting ... side-splitting ... a mirthful good time. Shay O'Hanlon and her wily bunch of friends take us on a hilarious journey of mayhem and murder. Jessie's created a solid bunch of characters that a reader can enjoy and be entertained by. Jessie's quirky humor breathes real life into the whole bunch!

Jessie exudes brilliant comedic abilities in her writing. I'm excited to read the next book ... and the next ... and so on. Great work by this new author. Uproariously fun reading!

Totally intertaining this book is never boring. She is hilarious and quick witted, I liked coop as well and of course ms quartemaine. I could not put this novel down. It has a well blended amount of humor, suspense and mystery. And It was nice to see a book with both heterosexual and gays a nice change of pace. The world does belong to everyone after all right? Most awsome novel just my kind of reads!! And of course I can't forget about Dawg he almost stole the show lol

This was a fun read. Just about the time I thought things couldn't get more complicated, they did. The characters are unique and special. Having the setting familiar added to the enjoyment. The action never stopped, so I just had to keep reading. Now on to the next book with these characters. More fun!

Chandler's fast paced Bingo Barge Murder is bristling with fun and conflict. This author does a fine job of describing her Minneapolis locals and characters. A good read anytime anywhere.
