STEVE MILLER – BIOGRAPHY
The Gangster is back. The man some people call Maurice will release his first new recordings in 17 years, BINGO!, in June on his own Space Cowboy Records, in partnership with Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records. Following his annual summer U.S. tour, in a new show designed by famed Broadway director Rob Roth (“Beauty and the Beast”), Steve Miller will make his first European… Read more in Amazon's Steve Miller Band Store

Editorial Reviews

Recorded at film producer George Lucas' infamous studios at Skywalker Ranch, 'BINGO!' is The Steve Miller Band's first studio album in 17 years. 'BINGO!' is the album Steve Miller has waited his entire life to make. Reaching back to his apprenticeship as a young man on the Chicago blues scene, Miller and co-producer Andy Johns brought classic rhythm and blues numbers that have been at the foundation of his music throughout his career into the 21st century.
A true return to Miller's roots, 'BINGO!' echoes his early years in the Chicago music scene and features carefully chosen and crafted blues tracks performed in distinctive Steve Miller Band fashion.
'BINGO!' was co-produced by Andy Johns (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen), with artwork designed by the legendary Storm Thorgerson. These recordings feature longtime Steve Miller Band member Norton Buffalo, who sadly passed away in 2009.

4.0 out of 5 stars 60% Steve Miller Band, 40% Something Else, but Very Cool..., June 30, 2010
By

This review is from: Bingo! (Audio CD)
This is a blues cover album, and a fine and fun recording. Steve's 1986 album "Living In The 20th Century" was a blues cover half-album (on side 2 only - mostly Jimmy Reed tunes), and then he did the brilliant "Born 2 B Blue" in 1988, which was mostly pop standards, R&B, and jazz. If you're a Jimmie Vaughan fan, you'll notice right away, as Steve covers 3 of JLV's tunes among the older classics.

This new album is a long-overdue all-blues-and-R&B effort, but be aware that a large portion of the album has lead vocals by Sonny Charles, and if you heard those tunes on the radio, you wouldn't have a clue that it was the Steve Miller Band. Steve's entire career has been made by hits and album cuts with his trademark vocals, including most of the early classics such as Living In The USA, Going To Mexico, Space Cowboy, My Dark Hour, Quicksilver Girl, and The Joker. And everything he's recorded from 1976 onward has had his vocals, so when you buy a Steve Miller Band album, that's what you expect to hear.

Of the 10 tracks on the regular edition of the album, 3 feature another singer, and 2 more are split between Steve and another singer.

Of the 4 bonus tracks on the special edition, 3 feature another singer!
So if you're going for the Special Edition, you'll get 1 additional track that sounds like a Steve Miller tune.
(Of 14 tracks you get 6 that feature all vocals by Steve Miller, and 2 on which he sings portions)

That's my complaint, but this is still an enjoyable romp of an album, and I recommend it to all Steve Miller fans.
Yes, Steve is a guitar player, and on some of his very early work he had other band members sing, but that was the exception, and not what his longtime fans expect to hear on record or in concert. If Steve wants to back-up Sonny Charles, that's fine, but don't call them Steve Miller songs. This definitely should have been credited to "The Steve Miller Band featuring Sonny Charles".

5.0 out of 5 stars Infectious, Driving, Souful Blues Showcasing Steve, Sonny and the Band, June 15, 2010
This review is from: Bingo! (Audio CD)
This band is hot!
Right now these guys are just about as good as entertainment gets. I've attended one concert each of the last two summers and this show is hot. Steve got legend Sonny Charles and this new band mixture has undeniably amped up the show, sound, and entertainment levels in perfect harmony for the benefit of the ear and audience. BINGO! sounds like it reflects the product of a true combination of hard work and fun that brings an actual 'new and improved Steve Miller Band' into this millennium with a sound that may not match exactly the style of his hits we've come to know, but none the less BINGO! will have you feeling good, dancing around, and singing these songs for many years to come.

This BINGO! offering give us this sort of honkey tonk, roadhouse, blues type, hard driving, toe tapping, "we're havin' fun and join in with us" kind of sound that will grab you and make you move with the music. Even with some voices that have a few years on them, kudos for the excellent vocal harmonizing to the band and Sonny gives an excellent vocal texture, quality and emotion that fits exactly to bring everything together with understood authenticity. The late, great Norton Buffalo provides his usual dose of the highest quality of musicianship for our pleasure on what would be his last of the many albums he contributed to.

This is an excellent CD that appeals to a wide range of listeners due to the basic instinctive likability of this music that keeps true to its blues base while still offering a little something for everybody.

Keep it up. We want more.......

This will be short and sweet.....this album is fantastic. Every song on this CD is worth their weight in gold. Sonny Charles sharing some of the lead singing is great. Pay the extra and get the Special Edition CD for the 4 extra songs.
