5.0 out of 5 stars It's Actually EASY to Get Up Now!
I bought this alarm clock about 2 weeks ago. I heard of it awhile ago, but I was turned off by the price. (By the way, I got it for about $50, not $89. I don't know why the price went up!) I bought the clock because I have to get up at about 5:30 am, and it's getting tough now that it's October and pitch dark at that hour.

When the clock arrived, I had doubts. It's pretty basic, and the instructions are a LITTLE confusing. Plus, I set it for 10 minutes into the future -- curious to see the "sunrise" -- but nothing happened except the "beep, beep" at the time I'd set. (Maybe it doesn't work unless you set it for more than 30 mins into the future). So, I set a back up alarm that first night and hoped for the best, saving the packaging in case I needed to return it.

Anyhoo, that first morning, while sleeping, I suddenly became aware of a light. The light got slowly brighter and I opened my eyes. At the set time, the clock gently "beep, beep -- beep, beeped" but I was already wide awake and actually READY to get up. Yes, it's true.

I used to spend 30 minutes pressing snooze, trying to pry myself out of a deep sleep. Now, I'm usually awake before the beep, and it's gradual and gentle. No pain!

I would recommend this alarm clock, but I would recommend trying to get it for more like $50, not $90 if that's possible.

One caveat: The alarm clock does wake up my husband, and he finds it kind of annoying. Oh well, I guess that's love. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars If you suffer from SAD, or just have trouble waking in the morning, September 30, 2010
This review is from: BioBrite Sunrise Clock EZ Wake, Sea Green (Health and Beauty)
you might want to try this. I own a much older version of this clock - purchased in 1996, to be exact when I first started experiencing the lethargy/excessive sleep patterns associated with SAD. We lived in Germany at the time, I was in the Army, and it was absolutely critical I drag myself out of bed by 5:00am to make it to my first formation. Long story (14 years!) short, I cannot live without this clock. So much so that I am purchasing a second clock because I AM living apart from the original. It's in Minnesota with my husband, who refuses to give it up! We're doing the commuter thing - I'm living in DC for now, and struggling more every day to pull myself out of bed. I've used both the sunset and sunrise features; it is bright enough to read by in the beginning (the whole point is the "sun goes down")and is bright enough to wake you in the morning. I also love that the alarm is gentle, so you wake up peacefully without the jarring nerve splitting shreak of regular alarms. Lastly, BioBrite is an awesome company to deal with. They are great when you have questions - mine periodically loses its sunrise funtion - but it just needs to be reset (unplug, wait 24 hours, plug it back in). I found that out when I called to order a new one, and after I described the problem, instead of taking my order they recommended I try the above procedure first.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not bright, poor timing, possible malfunction, November 17, 2010
This review is from: BioBrite Sunrise Clock EZ Wake, Sea Green (Health and Beauty)
I am returning this clock. I am not a morning person. Unfortunately, the fatal flaw for me is that the lamp gradually brightens for 30 minutes. Just after it reaches its full brightness (while I am still pushing the snooze button on my clock radio), it turns off -- entirely. I then roll over and go back to sleep. This timing sequence does not support my goal of getting out of bed. Additionally, it is not bright enough, and it seemed to have the light turned on at a low level even though it was supposed to be completely off according to the clock / settings.

Instead of this clock, I purchased two LED Christmas light strings, which are inexpensive to buy at the holidays. These both provide some light, but not as shocking to the system as a regular lamp. I have put these two LED light strings on $4 timers so that they switch on, first one then the other. This is not as gradual as the sunrise clock, but it is cheaper, more reliable, and I can have the lights stay on for an hour or more until I am sure I am up.

I own two of these sunrise clocks already, and I'm getting ready to buy my third so that my daughter can get back on schedule with the early onset of Daylight Saving Time. (The two I already have are in my room and my son's room.)

I have been using BioBrite products for about 15 years and I can't tell you what a difference they have made. It's this simple: I hate getting up in the dark, and with this clock, I never have to. The gradual lightening of the room always wakes me BEFORE the backup alarm goes off. Waking to light is so much gentler than the harsh beeping or buzzing of an alarm clock, or even waking to a radio. I don't notice the light coming on; I just wake up very naturally and discover that it's on. And because it's light in the room, I feel awake and ready to get up -- unlike in those days when the radio would go off and wake me from a deep sleep and I'd just hit the snooze button again ... and again ...

The sundown feature is also nice. I set it every night for my son to fall asleep to, and sometimes I use it myself. It helps him transition to a dark room, and it really helps me wind down.

It's true that the time setting and alarm setting process on this clock aren't intuitive. You will have to read the instructions. But that will take you all of 2 minutes, so don't sweat it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Will Get Another, January 12, 2011

I have had my BioBrite now about 3 months. I was having a real hard time(next to impossible) getting up when it was still dark. I really wanted to try it out before I reviewed the product.

The first time I used it, boy did it work and got me out of bed, but after a couple days, started getting used to having it on and could start ignoring it a little and hitting the snooze.

I find that this works best when I continue to use my old radio alarm and I also restarted taking vitamin D(get ckd by Dr first). I tried a couple different options, both radio & light coming on at same time, light coming on first then radio, and finally radio then the light. I found that having the radio come on then the light works the best. I still will hit the snooze so I probably need to move the light across the room.

I do not like that after about 5 or 10 minutes past your alarm time the light shuts totally off. I have slept through it when my radio didn't go off. It would also be nice if the time display was not so bright, that has given me problems during the night. I love a dark room.

Did not like the beeping alarm, but at least you can shut that off. Could use a little better instructions on how the clock works, directions written on sheet about the size of a large post it.

I would like to see this with more options like a regular alarm clock and a better price, but I am glad I have it. I would definitely get another one if mine ever breaks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a very good product., August 26, 2011

The idea of this is very cool; slowly wake up to sun calmly. But the execution of this product isn't so EZ. Having only the two buttons in the front make setting the clock very tedious. The buttons on this thing need to be more self explanatory. I use my phone for an alarm because it is so easy to set up and I can choose what noise I wish to wake to.

The actual alarm is a high pitched "beep beep" and is annoying even by alarm clock standards. The light does turn on very slowly which is nice, but it isn't a very bright light when it is finished. Finally, the thing just looks goofy, like something out of a sci-fi film.

The light was not bright enough to wake me up. The light shuts down 10 minutes after it reaches full intensity so if you aren't awake by then, you won't

be waking up at all.

I returned the light and received a full refund.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very bright Biobrite., November 26, 2008
This review is from: BioBrite Sunrise Clock EZ Wake, Sea Green (Health and Beauty)
I ended up returning this clock. The light was bright enough to wake up by, but not bright enough to deliver the feeling of daylight in the winter. I live in Seattle so I loved the idea of a "dawn" simulator. This just doesn't do it for me.
