Product Description

Editorial Review

BioMotor Unitron is marketed as a fantasy role-playing game, but the real fun is in modifying this game's Unitron, a fighting robot that can be customized in nearly every way.

The adventure begins as you prepare your Unitron for battle in a centralized city. You'll meet several local characters that can help you in your quest, which will take you to four randomly created dungeons that lie on the outskirts of town. Each dungeon has an elemental theme that must be taken into consideration before wandering in. As you fight your way through the dungeons using turn-based combat, you'll discover new items and equipment that can be used to upgrade your Unitron when you return to the city.

We had a lot of fun equipping our Unitron with our discoveries. The game lets you fuse various uncovered materials together, but the quality of the results depends on what you use and how you put it together. Other options such as new legs, power packs, and body types mean that there's always something to tweak as you progress toward your ultimate goal of becoming an arena champion and defeating a seemingly all-powerful beast that lurks beneath the city. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Fun combat sequences
  • Nice graphics, especially in the city
  • Near-limitless customization of Unitrons
Cons:
  • A tad too easy for the expert player

4.0 out of 5 stars This is the game you must buy., November 13, 1999

This review is from: BioMotor Unitron (NeoGeo Pocket Color) (Video Game)
A few weeks ago, I was searching for more info on BioMotor Unitron. Every little bit I read made me want to play this game even more. Finally, the game was purchased, and my NGPC stayed glued to my hands for the next 6 days. I want to keep this review short, as not to spoil any of the really cool stuff. The story is not as "thick" as RPG's for big brother type consoles. There is a story, its just never in the way of having fun. The real meat and potatoes is the creation of new "arms". By combining differnt metals, and arms you can create new super arms. There are 4 main dungeons and each one is randomly created each time you enter. Combat is the typical turn-based type, and is challenging for some of the bosses. The graphics and music are good, and character design is really good. The really good thing about this game is the fact that it has alot of replay value. Without spoiling anything, just trust me. You can even link-up and trade arms with friends. Now with news about BioMotor Unitron 2, I will play this one until I get ALL of those arms.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lacks depth that defines an rpg but, its fun none the less, November 15, 1999

When I first heard about BioMotor Unitron, I was pretty excited. An rpg on the NeoGeo Pocket Color, wow! But, when I got to playing the game I saw that it wasn't really an RPG. Sure it has the HP system and EXP. system, but it lacked a real plot. You go aroung these dungens and get money and experiance, but there was no real drive to the game except the making of new arms for the unitron. I do recomend taking a look at this game, but dont expect to much of a storyline.

4.0 out of 5 stars BIOMOTR UNITRON..... is this game the next POKEMON, December 23, 1999

NO...but many people of quite disapointed in this game. But how much can one small system give. Sure some of the things in the game can get to you like the no animation during the battles but what do u expect. The Neogeo is bringing the same graphics as a Super Nintendo , and thats pretty hard on such a small device. In BU ( Biomotor Unitron ) you start by picking a character then you go around meeting people . The game has tried to take the effect of POKEMON in thinking that a good RPG only has to consist of a good trade and collect plot...but this is wrong. Becuase of this people do not like the game becuase it has no real plot to it . but the game is highly addictive and to most people is very fun. And i think that if anyone wants a better game , you should either wait for BU 2 to come out or , get Card Fighters Clash for the Neo Geo aswell.
