4.0 out of 5 stars A good text on Metabolism but need more contributors
Zubay's biochemistry text book has long stood as one of the best texts in the market. However, this edition is unusual. Instead of written by several expert contributors, this edition is written mostly by Zubay himself. There are just a few chapters by others. This makes this edition becomes less strong and attracts not too many readers. Still, this textbook...

2.0 out of 5 stars Kind of Confusing
This book is dense and annoying. Many of the pictures come straight from Brandon and Toozes' Introdiction to Protein Structure. There are also some typos, for example in the amino acid table (a very important section for all biochem courses) glutamic acid and aspartic acid are given the same structure. Now this can be very confusing to those of us who didn't allready know...

Instead of written by several expert contributors, this edition is written mostly by Zubay himself. There are just a few chapters by others. This makes this edition becomes less strong and attracts not too many readers. Still, this textbook illustrates well in the metabolisom sections as well as DNA stuff (replication, transcription , translation and regulation.) You can try this book when you have trouble understanding such topics from other texts. I wish the next edition of this text will retain its beauty by having their bright contributors back. (CD provided is good as well)

This book is dense and annoying. Many of the pictures come straight from Brandon and Toozes' Introdiction to Protein Structure. There are also some typos, for example in the amino acid table (a very important section for all biochem courses) glutamic acid and aspartic acid are given the same structure. Now this can be very confusing to those of us who didn't allready know the proper structures. It also does not cover enzyme mechanisms in as much depth as was needed in my biochem class. All in all I would not give this book a very high rating. Probably any other text would be better.
