5.0 out of 5 stars Best Plant Biol. book out there

3.0 out of 5 stars Explanations not very comprehensive
The text covers a wide variety of plant molecular biology which is convienent. However the explanations are often very vague and do not connect with each other. When reading a paragraph you are often left with unanswered questions and the next paragraph may not connect with the previous paragraph at all. Not at all recommended for the beginner or undergraduate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Plant Biol. book out there, November 16, 2005
This review is from: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of Plants (Hardcover)
I am a PhD candidate in Plant Sciences and I work with both applied and basic researchers who work on all aspects of plant biology/agriculture etc. Everyone I work with and myself included feel that this is the best single plant biology text. It is a few years old now so some of the mol. biology will be outdated, and a couple of examples have since been proven to be different than described in the book, but this is minor. This is for the adv. undergrad or graduate student and if you are a graduate student in plant biology you should have this book-it is very expensive, but nearly every post-doc/grad student I know has a copy. Get the hardcover it will hold up better.

It is a nice comprehensive textbook, which can satisfy both who looks for theoretical information and who are working on advance plant molecular techniques in research laboratory!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST Have Book For Anyone in High Level Plant Science/Biochemistry, September 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is fantastic. I have taken several graduate level plant physiology and biochemistry courses and this book was a great reference for all of them. I have had other basic biochem courses that had textbooks that were very difficult to read and understand but this book is extremely well written and easy to understand even if biochemistry is not your main area of study.

The one down side is that this book is a little dated now at about 10 years old now but it is still very relevant and I have not found another book that comes close to being as comprehensive as this book. In research, a book quickly becomes outdated anyway since new discoveries are made all the time but you should still have a good reference book to fall back to for a lot of the basics and that's what this book does.

I have heard the authors are working on a new edition eventually. I fully intend to get a new edition of this book if one is ever released since this one has been so helpful and beneficial to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, bad binding, October 19, 2007
The book is great, one of the best to learn everything about plant biology. Good explanations and pictures. Binding could be better, hardcover shouldn't be that expensive.... Losing some pages aleady after a few weeks.

4.0 out of 5 stars love it, November 9, 2006
This book has the basis of Molecular and cell Biology that make you well armed. It has great pictures too. The biochemistry also is awesome, you'll find all the pathways you want. I even not gonna sell it after i graduate. I prefer keep it.

2.0 out of 5 stars low value, October 16, 2007
I borrowed this book from a library during graduate school and found it to be very helpful in reviewing plant biochemistry. It is well written and has a fair amount of detail. The illustrations were well done and helpful. In spite of all the book has going for it however, it is outrageously expensive. In fairness, it is a fat book at nearly 1400 pages. Nevertheless the content does not justify the extremely high price tag, and I am disappointed that the publishers expect students to cough up this amount of money for a single text.
