This book has a good mix between chemistry and biology. You do not need to be a strictly a biology major or strictly a chemistry to understand the concepts presented in this book.

I give this 4 stars because it was used in a graduate level biochem class, and it is too basic for such a class. It is a great book for an entry-level biochem class with great illustrations and material that is easy to read and easy to comprehend.

This textbook is great because it explains steps and processes using different colors. It is full of images accomplanied by text explanations to help with the understanding of the material. I would definitely recommed this textbook to learn biochemistry.

I took 2 courses in undergraduate biochemistry, and this was the book used. The authors strike a balance between biology (i.e. discussion of regulation and physiology) and chemistry (i.e. reaction mechanisms and structures of proteins). This book is middle-of the line between Voet (hardcore chemistry/structural biology) and Lehninger (physiology/pre-med focus). The illustrations were clear and overall the text was comprehensible. For teaching an undergraduate course in biochemistry, Garrett & Grisham is hard to beat.

The book is fine and it is for my biochemistry class, but I bought the Amazon version of the textbook and did not receive the Cengage access code when I assumed I would. On product description it states that it has access to Cengage, and with MOST new textbooks, the online access code is included in the product. I am very disappointed because the only reason I bought the new version was so I could get the access code. I will call Amazon tomorrow to have clarification on this matter. I checked on the Cengage website and the access code is 34 dollars, which still makes the package cheaper than the new version in my bookstore (250 plus CA tax). I have to decide if the access code is worth the price now, but I don't want any buyers to expect the access code if they order from the Amazon merchant. On a side note, the edges of the book were slightly squished in processing.

This book was required for a class and was about $50 cheaper on Amazon than the campus bookstore. The book is in very good condition. It is by no means my favorite class, but the book is a good supplement to the class material and makes a pretty tough class more manageable/understandable.

This purchase came in perfectly on time, and it was in perfect condition. I had no trouble at all. This came within 24 hours exactly! Good, grand, and perfect.

So glad I snagged this when I did....Got it a lot cheaper than it is now in the midst of college-student summer!
